While some of us are heavily invested in the so-called "console wars" it seems that one of them isn't interested in the wars at all. Xbox's Phil Spencer says that the company isn't even trying to outsell the PS5, so the fact that more people will have a Pl🧸ayStation in their homes than an Xbox Series X does not bother him nor Microsoft.

Spencer is saying that they are focused on building an experience around the players during an interview. Spencer further elaborated by saying that his team and Microsoft consider these console wars to be "fundamentally different" than they were with the 360 and the PS3. He explained, "How many consoles do I sell versus how many consoles does another company sell' - Sony or Nintendo or other companies back in the day - we're just not... that's not our approach." Of course, he and Microsoft know that reports are claiming that the PS5 will outs🐈ell the Series X almost 2 to 1 when they launch, so this claim is more meaningful than it sounds.

Instead, what Spencer and Xbox are doing is expanding their us🐽er base to include PC, Mobile, and Xbox users of all generations. Microsoft seems to be standing by this philosophy—for better or worse—because Spencer said that there would be for the Series X for a couple of years.

Xbox appears to be focusing heavily on Game Pass Ultimate, with the Xcloud going live next month and same-day availability of new games on the service. Players can also sign up for the Xcloud beta service right now and try playing AAA titles on their phones without ever downloading anythi🔯ng other than the Game Pass app.

The console wars of yesteryear are clearly over because Microsoft isn't necessarily interested in selling consoles. You can't have much of a war when one side refuses to fight—or at least refuses to fight on the same battleground. Microsoft's focus on Game Pass and Xcloud is going to completely change the way that everyone interacts with video games. No longer will you need to camp out at midnight to get the game, you can just download it right at home—if you even have to do that. Sony has absolutely no answer to this model of 🐻gaming, which must be what Sp꧋encer is banking on for the next several years.
