Two key components of the Star Wars franchise have kept fans around for over 40 years. Visuals and fairy tale science fiction storylines. With the premier of The Last Jedi, the storyline has come under major attack. Whether or not inten🔯tional, fandom is divided thanks to a single movie out of dozens of other forms of content. But what about the visual aspect?

The camera angles and visuals in The Last Jedi were stunning and awful at the same time. Yes, we’re referring to General Leia’s Mary Poppins (Harry Potter) like visuals. This has nothing to do with her using the force. The same can be said for Disney’s other two Star War movies too. We can’t forget how stunning the third act of Rogue One was, but the first two acts were lacking. The best visual from The Force Awakens was the scrolling shot of Poe Dameron demolishing enemies aboard his ꦑT-70 X-wing starfighter while Finn looked on from the grounౠd. Incorporate in all of George Lucas' movies too, and there's a ton of images that could have been better.

Which is why fans have taken matters into their own hands. Much like they have done over the last four decades. Thanks to deviantart.com, artists have a platform to share their work with the rest of the world. From images of Boba Fett surviving the Sarlacc Pit and Darth Maul’s extracurricular activities — to lightsaber wielding Chiss warriors, these images will blow your mind. Which is why we’ve picked the best-of-the-best regarding pieces of Star Wars fan art that is better than what we got in꧂ the movies.

Obi-Wan Kenobi Star Wars

Following the events from Revenge of the Sith, Obi-Wan takes Luke to Tatooine and changes his name to Ben Kenobi. But he didn’t just sit around in the desert for almost two decades waiting for A New Hope. He learned to communicate with Qui-Gon, like Yoda had, while also watching over Luke and his family. In Star Wars Rebels, he meets the young Ezra Bridger and is forced into a rematch duel with Darth Maul. Obi-Wan couldn’t use his lightsaber (except in his duel), as it would give his true identity away. But he still used the force often. Whether it was against Jabba’s men trying to tax water from Luke’s family or getting parts for a speeder Luke wrecked, Old Ben was there for every step 🌄of Luke’s childhood.

24 Dreaming Of The Future

Via ganassa deviantart.com

The short beat of Rey eating and pretending to be a pilot in The Force Awakens was imperative. But as this piece of fan art shows, there👍 could have been another similar scene after she pairs up with BB-8. Having the sun set behind Rey as she sits atop her makeshift home would have been stunning. Having a downed Star Destroyer and BB-8 in𝔉 the background makes it fanservice worthy.

Rey dreaming of a better life was an important part of her character arc.

The image would have also been a way to foreshadow her story. From a dreamer, to the only lightsaber wielding force user in the Resistance — Rey sitting above the wreckage portrays her as the galaxy’s last and only ꦡhope.

23 Anime Style Jedi

Dahri Star Wars

Disney has done a decent job with Star Wars Rebels, giving fans plenty of iconic moments. But let’s be real for a moment, the best moments involved iconic duels. From Darth Vader’s prophetic showdown with Ahsoka Tano to Obi-Wan and Darth Maul, it was all about fanservice. Which leads us to question why Disney hasn’t created an anime style Star Wars series?

Disney has their hand in just about every pot. Why not anime too?

Not that we want Disney to ruin anime. But the potential outcome could blow everyone away, especially if this fan art of a Siꦡth Dahri was part of it. Now that’s fanservice everyone can appreciate.

Darth Vader Star Wars

Darth Vader is a money-making machine. Fandom has turned him into the most beloved Sith of all time, and no matter how Disney uses him, it brings delight to audiences and big bucks into their pockets. Which is fine? Keep giving us more Vader, please. He’s too cool not to love. Rogue One gave a brief glimpse of Darth Vader’s palace on Mustafar, but how awesome would it have been to see him walkin꧅g out of it with flames shooting up all around him as he boards his TIE Advanced fighter. Or even better, getting a glimpse inside his personal fighter which was unlike everyone else’s. Heck, Disney could put Vader next to a bowl of Ramen and fans would still eat it up. Myself included.

21 Dark Side Twi'lek

Via Darek Zabrocki deviantart.com

The Rule of Two created by Darth Bane didn’t goꦅ into effect overnight. A Sith cult founded by Darth Kra🅠yt on Korriban (an ancient Sith burial world) created a Rule of One. Much like what Sidious would do, Krayt took on many apprentices, but remained the only master.

Darth Talon was a female Twi’lek, Hand to Darth Krayt.

She is covered in Sith tattoos as was the ritual for the Rule of One cult. Each tattoo was earned in combat and applied by Krayt. She was fiercely loyal to Darth Kryat as he was to her too. Talon rose the rank of a full-fledged Sith Lord within Darth Kꦗrayt’s order. Eventually, she would become one of two Hands, which is another practice Sidious used that went against the Rule of Two.

Star Wars Darth Maul

Darth Maul is considered canon, but his novel Maul: Lockdown (2015) is not. Written by Joe Schreiber, the book's story takes place a year before the events of Star Wars: The Phantom Menace. The woman🃏 in thiﷺs amazing fan art depiction is Komari Vosa, a former Jedi Padawan swayed to the Dark Side of the force.

Darth Maul and Komari Vosa should have a movie of their own.

Vosa became a crime lord after leaving the Jedi Order and the leader of the Bando Gora cult. Her ruthlessness and terror eventually caught the eye of Darth Sidious, who believed Vosa would upset his long-game plans. Since Sidious considered her a threat, he sent Darth Tyranus to eliminate her. In Maul: Lockdown (Legends) Darth Maul takes sides with Vosa after he determines siding with her fits hꦑis own goals.

19 Gone But Not Forgotten

Mara Jade Star Wars

Once the Hand to the Emperor, Mara Jade is an iconic character who was sadly disposed of when Disney took over Lucasfilm. As Hand, it was her job to eliminate anyone the Emperor assigned to her, without question. Even after his destruction in the Return of the Jedi, Sidious still had a memory bond with Mara Jade. His final orders were simple, eliminate Luke Skywalker. But things turned out much differently thanks to Luke’s gentle and caring nature. After helping Mara be free of Darth Sidious’ hold on her, she marries the man who essentially saved her life — Luke Skywalker. Which is honestly a much better Luke than the one fans got in The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi.

18 Another Day In The Life Of A Scoundrel

Via Kotaku Australia
Star Wars Scoundrels

Much of Han Solo and Leia Organa Solo’s life after their marriage has been erased and thrown into the EU. The fan art by Kotaku is much better than what we got in the movies. How cool would it have been for J.J. Abrams to give a flashback into why Han and Leia were doing their own thing in The Force Awakens, rather th⛄an working together like old times. Han and Lando are getting a much-needed beverage while Chewbacca helplessly watches the drama unfold. Leia is obviously upset over something, storming out of a beverage station addition on the Millennium Falcon like a princess would and should. Lando has that look on his face which says, “better you than me, old pal.” While Han looks like, it’s just another day in the life of a scoundrel.

17 Being A Rebel

Via richardhuante deviantart.com
Jyn Erso Star Wars

Much of Jyn Erso’s character made little sense in Rogue One. She was literally betrayed by everyone, from Director Orson Callan Krennic to Saw Gerrera and the Rebel Alliance. Having Jyn continue on with her task, which includedꦍ sacrif✱icing herself, to get the Death Star plans seems more like convenient writing than actual story telling.

What would Jyn Erso look like working for Darth Vader?

Siding with Vader makes sense. He wanted to take down the Emperor, and he could have given her the revenge she sought over Krennic. Vader would have likely told her anything she wanted to hear if she continued to serve him and do his bidding. This amazing piece of fan art gives fans a glimpse of how Rogue One could have been a much better movie du𝔍ring the first and second act.

16 In The Aftermath

Via Star Wars Concept Art
Star Wars Luke Skywalker

In The Force Awakens, fans were given a glimpse into Kylo Ren’s mind while he talked to Vader’s old mask. But what about Luke? Wouldn’t he have been the first to get the mask before Kylo? Or perhaps Kylo stole it from Luke after he trashed the new Jedi Temple. Either way, this is one scene which should have been in the movies. Why? Because it would have reminded Luke what he was fighting for and against. Yeah, it’s that simple. The story of Star Wars is meant to be like a science fiction fairy tale. And Luke Skywalker was the glue that held the New Republic in♋ 🔯place, not the Senate. He loved his father and sought to save him. Even though he never knew Anakin.
