We may see a revival of Scalebound in the fu🦋ture, as Hideki Kamiya of PlatinumGames has joked that fans should send letters to X🌳box boss Phil Spencer, so that work on the project could be resumed.
Scalebound was meant to be an action RPG set in a fantasy world, where the main character was mentally connected to a dragon and the two needed to team up to defeat foes. The Scalebound project was originally financed by Microsoft and developed by PlatinumGames, with the intention of the game being a PC/Xbox exclusive. All seemed well with the Scalebound project, but the g𒊎ame was unexღpectedly canceled in 2017.
There have been numerous rumors of a Scalebound revival over the past few years, especially with PlatinumGames making the move into publishing its own games. PlatinumGames managed to convince Nintendo to let them publish The Wonderful 101: Remastered on other platforms, so fans assumed that the same could be true of Scalebound. Hideki Kamiya from PlatinumGames was recently interviewed by the GameXplain YouTube channel and the topic of Scalebound was brought up.
According to Kamiya, if fans want to see the Scalebound project revived, then they need to send letters to Xbox boss Phil Spencer, as the decision would lie with him. It seems that PlatinumGames is more than interested in revivi✱ng the project, and the only thing standing in the way is Microsoft.
The idea of a Scalebound revival isn't as outlandish as you might think. Microsoft is gearing up for an exclusives war going into the next console generation, which has resulted in the company buying up studios in order to pump out exclusives for the Xbox Series X. Bringing back Scalebound as an Xbox Series X title would be a huge boon to the system. Scalebound was also originally designed with the Xbox One in mind, so it's possible that it could be revived as a cross-gen title, which is another aspect of the upcoming generation that Microsoft has been hyping up. It's unclear exactly how far along in development Scalebound was before it꧙ was canned, but it seems that a revival isn't as unlikely as fans might𒐪 once have believed.
