Fable was announced in 2020, but that doesn't mean the team at Playground Games began development shortly before that. In fact, the devs have been working on the🧸 project for at least four years now — but we haven't seen much of the beloved franchise during this time.
Tom Golton, l🦄ead engineer at Playground Games, has revealed on Twitter that he'd been working on the next Fable chapter for four years now and he's "excited for this game." Golton shared a card he received from the studio, congratulating him on yet another year of service.
The lead engineer didn't clarify at what stage of development he joined the studio, yet we may assume some pre-production for 💃Fable took place before that. It turns out, the team began shaping Fable sometime in 2017 — only a year after Lionhead Studios (the creators of the original Fable trilogy)꧅ closed its doors in 2016.
There had been a few leaks about Playground Games working on a new RPG back in January 2018, with sources claiming that the game was in the early stages of development. The studio started to hire additional specialists for the new unannounced project before that. Following the official announcement via a vague CGI teaser in 2020, we haven't heard anything else about Fable — maybe except Xbox boss Phil Spencer saying that the game will launch before The Elder Scrolls 6, and both titles will be "v💃ery different."
To sum up a few details we do know about Fable — the title is utilizing the ForzaTech engine (also used in💃 the new, critically acclaimed Forza Horizon 5), so you probably shouldn't worry about the game's visuals. Another thing we learned earlier is that Cyberpunk 2077's former sen👍ior gameplay designe𝐆r will be implementing various combat systems for the upcoming fantasy RPG. There was also some suspicious muddling around Fable's๊ 16th anniversary recentl꧙y, but sadly, fans didn't get any treats.
