Notoriously, the Xbox One was outdone by the PlayStation 4 this generation, even with each consoles' respective upgrades. The same also applies to the Switch, which similarly ou🅺tperformed the Xbox One. This is simply proven by the sales.
Evidently, both the PlayStation 4 and Nintendo 𝓀Switch outsold the Xbox One – by a wide margin. According to , the Xbox One sold about 46.9 million units since its launch in 2013. Meanwhile, the PS4 sold 108.9 million units in total since 2013 as well. It wasn't even close.
Further, the Nintendo Switch, which was released nearly three and a half years later in 2017, sold about 52.48 million units in total since its debut. Considering that the console is markedly younger than the Xbox One, it causes 🎐a bit of an eyebrow raise to say the least.
The previℱous generation was fairly neck-and-neck, as the Xbox 360 sold 84 million units against the PS3's 87.4 million units. However, the gap isn't as extreme when compared to the original Xbox vs PS2 sales – 24 million vs 155 million.
It appears that M𝓰icrosoft is better-positioned, however, heading into the next generation. 🔯Between a number of controversies on Sony's part to some strategic marketing from Xbox, the Series X could prove to be formidable competition for the PS5 when they both hit the shelves.
