In regard to the PS5, there has been a wealth of rumors surrounding its potential backward compatibility capability. Some of those rumors even suggested it would be capable of supporting games through all of its former consoles. As more details have emerged, those rumors appear to be unfounded. However, Sony has confirmed t🍨hat the PS5 will be capable of playing al♐most all PS4 games.

What's more, judging by what the PS5's lead system architect had to say, Sony will not be making the same mistakes it did with the PS3's backward compatibility. The original PS3 console was capable of playing PS2 titles. A very smart decision conside🐲ring the popularity of the PS2. However, when updated versions of the PS3 were released, Sony scrapped the backward compatibility so it could sell the console for a lower price.

Backward compatibility does more than just allow players to enjoy older games on a newer console. It also tempts potential customers to purchase a new console sooner than they might have originally planned. The PS5 will be expensive when its first released, and for good reason. Chances are m൲ost won't be able to afford more than one or two games right off the bat.𒆙 Allowing them to play the PS4 games they already have alongside a couple of PS5 games on the new console will lead to more people buying the console at launch rather than waiting for the price to drop.
