The PS1 and PS2 are home to many of the industry’s finest RPGs on consoles. There was Final Fantasy VII, Vagrant Story, Star Ocean 2, Wild Arms 2, and the list goes on and ♈on. And that was ju🌟st PS1.

Sony really cleaned up shop after Nintendo was the king for so long on the NES and Super Nintendo. With that backstory filled out, a year later is when this Diablo-like RPG for PS3 and PS Vita was rebranded. At this time Idol Minds was taken off the project followed by its cancelatio🍒n in 2013. has quite a bit of screenshots and gameplay videos archived.

8 Ushiro

Ushiro, not to be confused with the Manga Ushio and Tora, was a so-called horror RPG from Level-5. It wold have been a PSP exclusive about a supernatural spirit able to posses people in order to see into their lives. Oh, and he'd also fight monsters too. There is a trailer archived on that shows some anime cutscenes and little gameplay along with with art and screenshots. While the game was canceled, Level-5 actually created a tie-in Manga, Ushiro: Fukigen na Shinigami. It wa🦄s never localized, but there are fan translations out the🎃re for those curious.

7 Ascendant

Ascendant was originally announced by THQ in 2007 for PC, PS3, and Xbox 360. This action RPG was in the hands of Ken Rolston, who previously worked at Bethesda on The Elder Scrolls series before moving on to Big Huge Games to develop this. Development hit a snag in 2009 with THQ pulling funding, but 38 Studios bouꦏght Big Huge Games shortly after with the promise 💯of work continuing on this project.

Based on the and screenshots, one could make the deduction that this eventually evolved into Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning, which launched in 2012. Ken Rolston, to m🔴ake this clearer, was also the lea𝓀d designer on that.

6 TwinBee Miracle

The TwinBee series, which began in 1985 in arcades, is mostly known for being a good set of Konami made shoot 'em ups. There were attempts, however, at creating spinoffs in other genres. TwinBee: Rainbow Bell Adventure was a platformer for the Super Nintendo, which was closely followed by a puzzle game. The next genre experiment was this, a RPG, which had a showcasing a lot of the game's mechanics. While the anime inspired TwinBee Miracle was canceled, a new RPG took its place simply titled, TwinBee RPG, which was a 1998 PS1 release in Japan.

5 The Witcher: Rise of the White Wolf

The first Witcher game by CD Projekt Red released on PCs in 2007. The Witcher: Rise of the White Wolf 🍌then was like half port, half remake for PS3 and Xbox 360. Due to some financial troubles the port was canceled in favor of r🐻eleasing an enhanced version on PC instead with more continuing instead on an actual sequel. has a few blurry screenshots and one remaining video of three, the other two presumably were taken down by CD Projekt Red.

4 Chronos Materia

While no video presence of Chronos Materia was ever shown, developer Gust, and publisher Koei Tecmo, did talk a bit about it after its 2013 reveal. This time traveling PS Vita RP🐈G even had a release date for September 26, 2013. That was a Japanese date, sure, but a date is a date. , a site that specializes in covering Japanese gaming news, has the bulk of archived information on the game. Once the date passed, Koei Tecmo never gave a new release window, or shared any new information until it was canceled in 2016.

3 Animal Wars

Factor 5 was developing Animal Wars as a PS3 exclusive. It would have taken place in an alternate version of WWI starring animals in a tactical RPG. It was canceled due to problems with Sony in regard to their poorly reviewed other PS3 exclusive, Lair. There are no videos, but there is plenty of a🔯rtwork on .

Interestingly there are two games with this similar concept. One, Hogs of War for the PS1 and PC came out in 2000. It was also a war themed strategy game, but just about pigs. Then there was Tooth and Tail, which launched in 2017 for a variety of platforms and was an alternate 19th century RTS 🍸also with warring animals.

2 Aliens: Crucible

Like Factor 5, Obsidian Entertainment has a number of canceled games under their belt. One of the cooler properties they would have worked on was Aliens via Aliens: Crucible. It was an RPG in proper Obsidian fashion with a heavy theme of survival and horror thrown in to make proper use of the license. It was in development for PS3 and Xbox 360 before getting shut down. There is a statement from someone who worked on the game along w𓆏ith some concept art archived on , but no gameplay exists.

1 Skies of Arcadia 2

Let's end this with a sequel as much in demand as The Legend of Dragoon, Skies of Arcadia 2. The🌊re is no concept art of this game. It was barely even announced as testimony would indicate gathered by IGN and GameSpy, among other sources, which are gathered on . It didn't even have a set platform, but it was tentatively a GameCube and PS2 game🌳 although the latter of the two could be questioned as the port of the original game only made it to GameCube. The PS2 port was eventually canceled.
