Sony hasn't been doing a lot to promote indies games on the PS4 or its own PlayStation Now subscription service over the last few years. When the console initially launched, indie devs were given a ton of incentives to create titles on Sony's console, but the focus has shifted to other ♔platforms. PlayStation Now, as well, is rarely brought up by Sony and doesn't offer much that isn't done better by Microsoft's competing Xbox Game Pass service.
Today, the company announced a new plan that is looking tꩲo change the perception around indie games and PlayStation Now. In a post on the PlayStation Blog, Sony's Shuhei Yoshida (former SIE president) revealed a new plan that the company is calling "PlayStation Indies." The main goal is to get more indie developers creating and porting games to Sony's console. The secondary goal is to get those indie games on PlayStation Now to help promote the service.
"The indie community is increasingly important for the future of the video game ꦿindustry," Yoshida writes, "as AAA game developme𓃲nt has grown so financially demanding that big companies are finding it harder to take risks to invest in new concepts that may or may not work."
Kicking things off, Sony revealed that nine new indie titles would be announced over the course of today. The first is , an action platformer from PlayStation China. The second is 𒈔the trippy puzzle game .🍃 More will be making their debut over on the PlayStation blog throughout the coming hours.
It's not exactly clear if these indie titles will launch on PlayStation Now, but the company is looking to bring one new indie game a month to its service. That should he💧lp push people not interested in mainstream♏ or triple-A games to sign-up and give it a shot.
These new indie games are said to be coming to both PS4 and PS5, so there may be some games that🦂 look well beyond what the PS4 is currently capable of. It also pretty much confirms that PlayStation Now will be playing some sort of role on the PS5.
