During the height of the pandemic, PlayStation offered up a selection of free to download games as part of a Play At Home program to tempt people to stay indoors. It's now been revealed just how 🌱successful that program actually was. In a video interview with , PlayStation CEO Jim Ryan claims that a whopping 60 million ga༒mes have been downloaded thanks to the Play At Home program, introducing potentially millions of people to brand new experiences.
According to Ryan, he is proud that t♔he company was able to offer the games to people during such a difficult period and that PlayStation is "happy" with the results:
"As everybody was struggling with the first lockdown we thought it would be a nice thing to do, and were very happy with the reaction," explains Ryan. "Then we got through Christmas and started lockdown again and it was a bit miserable so we thought it🔯 would be a nice thing to reprise. So we did it again over a period of months and over 60 million games have been downloaded as part of that."
When asked whether the Play At Home program would return for a third time, Ryan explains that we'll have to see "how the world evolves" and hints that Play At Home may make a return if another lockdown was to occur. We might get f⛎ree games,ꩵ but just the thought of another lockdown is enough to send a shiver up anyone's spine.
In other PlayStation-related news, Sony is removing the option to purchase games from the PS3 and PlayStation Vita via credit card or PayPa𓃲l. The only way to purchase a game on either store is to purchase credit on your PlayStation wallet and pa🙈y for a game that way. It's not a removal of payment options all together, but it does make buying games on both systems a little harder.
