Abilities have been a staple of Pokemon since Generation III, and almost all of them add an extra edge for their Pokemon in battle. Abilities give Pokemon extra, unique capabilities, ranging from outright boosts to strength to extra type immunities.
Some abilities allow the Pokemon who have them to inflict additional effects on their foes and a large number of these trigger on contact. Contact is a weird mechanic - most physical moves make contact, but there are a few exceptions. The move's name and animations are typically a good way to figure it out - Fire Punch makes contact, but Earthquake doesn't. Here are some interesting abilities that require opponents to make contact to activate.

Static has been a valuable asset for many electric type Pokemon since abilities were introduced, and its role is simple but effective. When an enemy Pokemon makes contact with a Static user, they have a 30 percent chance to be paralysed.
Paralysing the enemy is always useful, but many Pokemon with Static, such as the Ampharos line, are slow and able to take extra advantage of the speed drop paralysis inflicts - it'll turn the tables and allow them to outspeed. Stat✤ic also has a use outside of battle, allowing you to encounter other electric types mo🍌re easily.
9 Cute Charm - Love at First C𒈔ontact🌌
Infatuation is a very useful effect if you can make it work. Every turn, there's a 50 percent chance an infatuated foe won't attack due to being immobilised by love. The catch is that for infatuation to work, your Pokemon and the opposing Pokemon have to be 𓆉of opposite gende❀rs.
Normally, inflicting infatuation requires the move Attract, which only a limited number of Pokemon have access to. Fortunately, Cute Charm can also inflict this handy hindrance on foes, having a 30 percent chance to infatuate the enemy Pokemon whenever they make contact.
8 Mummy - An Ability Tꦰhat Spreads Like a Virus
Pokemon has a few ways to change others' abilities - for example, moves like Simple Beam or Skill Swap, or the ability Wandering Spirit, which swaps abilities on contact. Mummy is another interesting way of doing this; whenever an opposing Pokemon makes contact with a Mummy Pokemon, their ability will change to Mummy.

If a Pokemon with Pickpocket has no held item, it'll steal the held item of the first enemy Pokemon to make contact. This means you can not only🐲 get yourself a strong held item, but rob the opponent of theirs - a great win-win to give you the upper hand.
6 Rough Skin - Don't Touch!
When a Pokemon makes contact with a Rough Skin Pokemon, they'll lose an eighth of their total HP. It's not exactly massive damage, but it's not nothing, and it can be the difference between almost OHKOing a Pokemon and then finishing them off within a round, or a fight continuing.
Only a few Pokemon get Rough Skin - the Sharpedo line, the Garchomp line, and Druddigon - so it's not exactly widely used for battling. However, Rough Skin shares its effect with Iron Barbs, so there are a f🐈ew ways to get your hands on a prickly Pokemon of your o⛦wn.
5 Tangling Hair - Slows Attackers🌺 Down ꦚ

Flame body is like Static, but for burns - when making contact with a Flame Body Pokemon, an attacker has a 30 percent chance to be burned. Burns are arguably even more useful than paralysis since they half the attack of the Pokemon they're inflicted upon.
Given that Pokemon making contact are almost certainly physical attackers, this is an invaluable way to neutralise strong threats. Having them be burned on contact means you don't have to use up a turn on Will-O-Wisp or a similar move, so Flame Body is certainly a great ability.
3 Perish Body - Starts the C💧lock Tickin🌌g
The move Perish Song is an interesting one. When used, it sets the "Perish Count" for each of the Pokemon on the field to three, and if they're still on the field when it reaches zero, they'll faint and there's nothing they can do about it.
Perish Body has a similar effect; when contact is made, both the attacker and the Perish Body Pokemon get a Perish Count of three, and the countdown to their fainting begins. Cursola is the only Pokemon to get Perish Body, but if you do end up with the Pokemon, it's a fantastic ability.
2 Effect Spore - Can Infli🦩ct a Variety of Effects
Flame Body, Static and Poison Point each have a 30 percent chance of inflicting burns, paralysis, and poison respectively, and Effect Spore is similar. When contact is made, Effect Spore has a 30 percent chance of inflicting an effect on the attacker. But what effect?
If the 30 percent chance occurs, Effect Spore will inflict either poison, paralysis, or sleep, chosen at random. This uncertainty might limit the ability's use due to the inconsistency, but there's no denying the variety of its effects make Effect Spore incredibly versatile.
1 Tough Claws - An Ability on the Attacker's Side
While the other abilities on this list have been ones that work when a Pokemon is being attacked, Tough Claws is one utilised by an attacker. Specifically, it powers up all a Pokemon's contact moves by 30 percent - an excellent boost for a physical attacker.
Tough Claws is obviously very powerful, and when it was introduced in Generation VI, it was exclusive to Mega Evolutions (and Barbaracle). It was later made available to more Pokemon, such as Lycanroc and the Perrserker line, so it's not too hard to get your hands on this outstanding ability.
