In episode one of the second season of the TV show, Ash infamoཧusly leaves his Pidgeot behind. This was after the Flying-type Pokemon had helped him to defeat the Fearow that was terrorizing the other Pokemon in the region. Keep in mind that this was the second Pokemon he ha♏d managed to catch and that it had effectively saved his life earlier in the episode.
Promising to come back for it after he is done with the Orange Islands, while it stays to protect the remaining Pokemon, Ash never even attempts to keep that promise. It almost seemed like the writers had simply forgotten about that particular plot thread. But as it turns out, this was just one additional line of dialogue added for the English dub of the episode that was never spoken in the Japanese version. Given its resurgent popularity though, it wouldn't be surprising if this particular plot thread is revisited in a future episode.
3 ♔Unearned Gymไ Badges
In the Pokemon games, players are forced to make their way through the various Pokemon gyms in order to advance their way up the Pokemon league. This entails defeating each gym's leader, an action that earns the player a badge for that particular gym.

In the Pokemon games, the act of catching a Pokemon can be a grueling, methodical affair. Especially if it is a rare Pokemon or one that is at a significantly higher level. But more often than not, the actual battle that precedes the capture doesn't last longer than a few minutes.
This is certainly not the case in the TV show where Ash often takes entire episodes just trying to catch one Pokemon. This probably explains why he has only managed to catch so few of them. We understand that these fights are included to create some tension, but long, drawn-out battles between Pokemons are just as fun as endless grinding in any video game, which is another way of saying not fun atꦛ all.
