Water is one of Pokemon's staple types no matter how you look at it. Being the most populous type in the game so far, there are bound to be some Water-type Pokemon that prove stronger than the rest.
The competitive scene is no different in that regard. It always helps to have a Water-type on a competitive team, thanks to its very few weaknesses and super-effectiveness against common types. There are quite a few really good ones, as shown by these 15 to 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:consider when teambuilding.
Note: This post will not include Pokemon currently banned to Ubers.
15 Barraskewda 🃏 🐼
The only 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:pure Water-type Pokemon on this list is basically just the Attack and Speed stats turned up to 11. Barraskewda's Attack stat is great (123), its Speed stat is even better (136), and everything else is below average (61 at the highest, in HP).
Where it succeeds best is as a pure offensive bomb. In addition to STAB Waterfall, Liquidation, and Flip Turn, it has access to a nice gamut of coverage moves. It's especially good in the rain thanks to its Swift Swim ability. That said, it's terrible defensively, so watch out for priority moves or type-resistant defensive walls.
14 Volcanion
The only Fire/Water-type Pokemon to date has put that typing's massive offensive potential to good use. The mere idea of getting STAB for both Fire Blast and its signature Steam Eruption is pretty scary. Not to mention, its Special Attack is an asset at 130.
It's also quite good defensively, and it even has some support under its belt, with access to Toxic and Defog. Unfortunately, it's rarely first to the punch thanks to the mediocre 70 Speed, and it has to take a few hits before doing what it wants.
13 Tent𝔉acrueꦜl
It's not the best defensive Water/Poison-type out there, but Tentacruel deserves to be in this conversation. Not only does it have a great 120 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Special Defense stat, but it provides its own brand of utility.
Its specialty is its current signature ability: Liquid Ooze, which damages opponents through their own healing moves. It also has access to Rapid Spin for removing hazards, as well as straightforward attacks like Scald and Sludge Bomb. It's definitely not as good a physical wall as it is a special wall, though, so avoid any physical attackers.
12 Crawdaunt
Crawdaunt is a perfect storm of necessary attributes to be a great wallbreaker. Its high Attack stat, the Adaptability ability, and access to great attacking (Knock Off, Crabhammer, Aqua 🉐Jet, Close Combat) and set-up moves (Swords Dance) make it a feared offensive Pokemon in its tier.
Where it mainly lacks is the defensive side. While it's decent defensively on the physical end with 85 Defense, it's terrible on the special end with an atrocious 55 Special Defense. Just be sure to watch out for any potential checks while you're in the middle of an attacking spree.
11 Azumarill
You wouldn't expect it to be any good if you looked at its stats, but Azumarill is much better than the sum of its parts. Uncannily, it's one of the best attackers in its tier despite a measly 50 base Attack, thanks to its appropriately-named ability, Huge Power, which doubles its Attack stat.
Improve on that even further via a Choice Band or Belly Drum, then make use of Play Rough, Liquidation, and Aqua Jet. It's quite slow unless it's using the very latter move, though, so make sure to not get caught without the set-up.
10 Gyarados
Gyarados has been a staple offensive Pokemon since its debut. It's main plan of attack has changed a bit in more recent generations, though, with its hidden ability Moxie overtaking Intimidate as its primary competitive ability.
Like most set-up sweepers, it can snowball through opposing teams when it has the necessary stat boosts. Said stat boosts come from both Dragon Dance and the aforementioned Moxie, with Waterfall as its main attacking move and Earthquake, Scale Shot, Bounce, and Power Whip as great secondary options. Just be sure to eliminate its checks before letting 'er rip.
9 Primarina
Slow wallbreakers have their place in competitive battling, and for both Water-types and Fairy-types, Primarina is a world-class Pokemon in that mold. With 12🐲6 Special Attack, STAB moves like Hydro Pump, Surf, Scald, and Moonblast; and coverage moves like Ice Beam, Psychic, and Shadow Ball, Primarina has some power at its disposal.
Still, it's pretty slow, and while its Special Defense is also very good at 110, its physical Defense is lacking at 70. A fast physical attacker is bad news for Primarina. Its abilities aren't great either, its best being the situational Starter exclusive, Torrent.
8 Pelipper
Pelipper has been 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:a staple on rain teams for two generations now, thanks to being the best legal carrier of the Drizzle ability. While rain teams are no longer as popular in higher tiers, the presence of Pokemon like Pelipper in a tier can totally shape what works and what doesn't.
From a pure battling perspective, Pelipper has some tools in its bag alongside the ability to bring rain. It's a solid special attacker with Scald and Hurricane as its main attacking moves. It can also U-Turn out of sticky situations and Defog hazards off the field.
7 🔯 Rotom-W🧜ash
When combined with Levitate, 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Rotom-Wash's Electric/Water-typing is excellent defensively, effectiveꦓly giving it only one weakness in Grass. That, along with both defensive stats being a s🍌olid 107, make it an excellent defensive pivot.
Its support moves don't hurt, either. Defog, Will-O-Wisp, Trick, and Pain Split all have good uses in Rotom-Wash movesets. Its best offensive moves include Hydro Pump, the appliance-specific damaging move, and Volt Switch, for doubling down on the pivot role. Just don't expect it to do much offensively against Pokemon that resist its types, such as Dragon and, of course, Grass.
6 Keldeo
Keldeo is one of the 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:best legal Mythicals to use for competitive battling. It's a potent special attacker that, thanks to its typing, can check a lot of the strongest walls roaming the metagame today.
Its value as a rare special Fighting-type cannot be overstated, and its Water-typing makes it all the more reliable. It doesn't have many options for coverage, but Scald, Hydro Pump, and Secret Sword are three very solid attacking options to work with. All that comes with a great 129 Special Attack and 108 Speed, not to mention deceptively good bulk.
