It's no secret that the Pokemon series draws inspiration from real-world creatures and mythical concepts. Pokemon's creator, Satoshi Tajiri, was inspired by his interest in collecting and sharing bugs during his youth, which eventually laid the groundwork for the collection and trading of Pocket Monsters.
One real-world animal that consistently inspires Pokemon designs is the fox or the Kitsune of Japanese folklore. Several evolutionary lines have creatures that don the title of 'Fox Pokemon,' or at the very least, have a striking fox-like resemblance. There are several exceptionally powerful fox Pokemon, but only one can stand alone as the top fox on the battlefield.
Updated November 5th, 2022 by Andrew Scariati: Pokemon Legends: Arceus saw some of our favorite fiendish foxes get a Hisuian makeover. Moving forward with the release of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, we hope that Game Freak includes some new fox Pokemon to compete for the crown. As it stands now, most fox Pokemon possess either the Dark or Fire-typing, leaving plenty of room for innovation among these adorable, furry creatures. Whether they be found on Paldea or somewhere unknown, fans are eager to uncover the next line of fox-like Pokemon just waiting to join their friends.
10 Nickit
168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Pokemon Sword and Shield introduced a new family of foxes into the Pokedex, one of those being the adorable fox-looking Pokemon, Nickit. This sneaky Pokemon steals (or nicks) food from other Pokemon, sneaking off silently on its softly padded feet. Furthermore, iꦺt uses its large tail to sweep away its footprints, erasing all evidence꧂ of its crime.
There's no doubt Nickit is a big-brained criminal, but its abilities also aid its crooked ways. Its first ability, Run Away, allows it to escape battle when injured or threatened, as a thief would when confronted. The Unburden ability raises its speed when a held item is used or lost, aiding its escape if its loot is used or compromised. Lastly, its hidden ability is Stake Out, which is a quintessential crime activity. If an opponent switches out, then the damage dealt to its replacement will be doubled, thanks to Stake Out.
9 Vulpix
This 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Kanto region Pokemon is extremely popular with fans, being one of the cutest Fire-type Pokemon of the original 151. This explains ꦬwhy Vulpix was given an Alolan form: to capitalize on the nostalgia and lovability of the Fox Pokemon. Both forms of Vulpix evolve when exposed to an evolutionary stone: a Fire Stone for regular Vulpix and an Ice Stone for Alolan Vulpix.
Vulpix's lore is quite interesting and heartwarming, especially since it has an everlasting flame that burns inside its body. Alolan Vulpix's icy breath is able to freeze its prey solid before Vulpix eats it. All Vulpix only have one white tail at birth, with it splitting into six colored tails as they grow older.
8 Fennekin
This 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:powerful starter Pokemon was quite well-received by fans with its introduction in Kalos. Many aspects of its personality and powers hint at what it will become when it evolves, from the twig it munches on to its hidden ability, Magician. Its huge, fluffy ears aren't just for show either, as it can puff hot air out of them to scare opponents.
This honorary fox-type Pokemon gained even more popularity with its role as Serena's Fennekin in the XY series of the Pokemon anime. This Fennekin has a fiery personality that is tempered by her love for her trainer, mimicking Serena in many ways.
7 Eevee
168澳洲幸运5开奖网:The many Eeveelutions are perhaps some of the most famous Pokemon out there, rivaling Pikachu on many occasions, such as in Pokemon: Let's Go, Pikachu! & Let's Go, Eevee! The Eevee family is purposefully ambiguous in its species of origin, with some resembling cats (such as Espeon) and others being more dog-like such as Jolteon.
Eevee is undeniably the most fox-like Pokemon of the group, right down to its fur coloring. Eevee is so endearing not just because of its cute ears and spa🃏rkly eyes but because of the potential it holds and what it represents for long-time fans of Pokemon. The ability to change and grow into many forms is a wonderful metaphor for growing up and pursuing the version of yourself that you most want to become.
6 Zorua
Zorua is really one of the most adorable Dark-type Pokemon, fox or not, but you might not even know you've encountered one until its disguise shatters. Using its ability Illusion, Zorua takes on the appearance of the last Pokemon in the player's party, with the disguise lasting until Zorua is hit by a damaging move.
Kitsune are often said to have the power of illusions,♔ so it makes sense that the "Tricky Fox" Pokemon would have such an ability. Zorua also blends into the snowy landscape of the Hisui region with its white-coated Hisuian form, keeping with its illusory theme. Hisuiaun Zorua also gains the Ghost-type and feeds on the terror of others while it is disguised, a frightening change to the cute fox Pokemon.
5 Braixen
As the middle evolution of the Fennekin line, Braixen starts to show more and more traits of magical abilities, though it won't gain true Psychic-typing until its final form. Both Braixen's wand-like stick and use of fire are reminiscent of both western witches and Kitsune-mochis, the latter being Japanese folklore witches who gain their power from foxes.
Braixen is a reasonably powerful and popular Pokemon, appearing in Pokkén Tournament as a playable character and in the Pokemon anime with a recurring role as Serena's Pokemon. Much like its final form, this fox Pokemon also stands on two legs, further distinguishing itself as a humanoid witch.
4 Thievul
This fox-like Pokemon looks like the archetypal cartoon villain, complete with a burglar mask and pointy thin mustache. Thievul has the same fitting abilities t▨hat Nickit does but with more potent moves, in𓆏cluding Thief, which it learns upon evolving.
Thievul displays elements of a ♔hitman according to its Pokedex entry, as it "marks the potential targets with a scent" in order to hunt them down and rob them at the opportune moment. Interestingly enough, it has a natural rival in Boltund, similar to the Zangoose and Seviper rivalry.
3 Ninetales
The majestic Ninetales seems to be based on the Kitsune and the red fox, as well as a potential reference to a cat o' nine tails whip. Legends of this elegant Pokemon say that each of its tails possesses a different mythical power and that Ninetales can live for up to 1,000 years. Other legends say that pulling one of this Pokemon's nine tails could result in a 1,000-year curse, which was explored in the Pokemon Mystery Dungeon series.
Alolan Ninetales has a unique type combination of Ice and Fairy, as well as a gorgeous, silky coat that con꧑tains shards of ice that it uses to attack its enemies.
2 Zoroark
Dark-types seem to make great foxes due to their reputation as crafty and sly creatures, and Zoroark is one of the best examples of that. Kitsunes were said to revel in tricking unwary travelers with their shape-shifting abilities, which Zoroark does with its Illusion ability. Because this Illusion is so integral to this fox Pokemon's lore and identity, Zorua and Zoroark have no secondary or hidden ability.
168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Zoroark's Hisuian form isn't all tricks and slyness, however, as it has an unexpectedly soft side, showing empathy and care for its friends and family members, like 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:smaller Hisuian Zorua. You will have to gain Hisuian Zoroark's trust first. Otherwise, these creatures are known to attack with extreme malice.
1 Delphox
The culmination of Fennekin's evolutionary process is the elegant Delphox, which can harness powerful attacks thanks to its dual Fire and Psychic typing. This Pokemon highly resembles both the Kitsune fox and European witches or mages with its robe-like fur and fiery staff.
Not only does Delphox have the highest base stat total out of any other fox Pokemon with 534, but it has a highly reliable Special Attack and Speed stat that makes it a go-to for trainers. Forget a witch-hunt; This witch will burn you on the battlefield if you're not careful!
