Although the overall design of a Pokémon goes a long way in making it stand out from the crowd, particularly when each generation tends to see some repeated design elements such as 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Pikachu clones, regional birds, and regional rodents, a Pokémon's typing is w𝄹hat truly m🦩akes it unique.
With 18 different types and a maximum of two types per Pokémon, this leaves a lot of room for unique type combinations that are only seen on a handful of ♑creatures. Unfortunately, some of these combinations are overused and, as a result, become a little overrated in spite of whatever flaws they may have.
10 Overrated: Dragoꦓn & Flying-T🍰ype
Starting all the way back with 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Dragonite, the Dragon and Flying dual typing is easily the most common combination for Dragon-type Pokémon, seen in multiple 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:pseudo legendary as well as a handful more regular Pokémon, it seems like Game Freak and The Pokémon Company see this as the default Dragon-type combination. While it does have some benefits in the current generation, most ൩not♌ably the ease of access to Max Airstream, it's overuse means that other secondary types for dragons are few and far between, with only a handful of Dragon-type Pokémon having unique typing.
9 ꦅ Underrated: Dragon & Poison-Type ꦉ
Despite the addition of the 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Fairy-type being used to keep dragons in check, this also had the added bonus of finally giving Steel and Poison-type Pokémon something to do other than be a wall or inflict status effect. With this in mind, the Dragon/Poison-type combination should be much more popular than it is, as, as of 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Sword & Shield, there are only three Pokémon that have this combination. Aside from resisting Fairy-type attacks and having great potential in terms of move diversity, they would also have easier access to Max Ooze for increasing their special attack stat, but so far the only Pokémon with this combination are Naganadel, Eternatus, and Dragalge, two Pokémon let down in one way or another by🐻 their stats and another that just can't live up to its box legendary counterparts in spite of its ridiculous stats.
8 Overrated: Bug & Steel-Type ♔ 🌄
Somehow, it only took one great Pokémon, both in design and stats, to blow this type combination out of proportion. Although it wasn't the only Bug and Steel-type introduced in generation two, Scizor managed to singlehandedly take credit forꦜ how good the combination is, with only one weakness to Fire-type attacks and decent resist🦋ances against most threats.
Despite many other Pokémon sharing this type, few have managed to rise to the same status as Sci🔯zor, but that hasn't stopped this combination from being seen as amazing in spite of how few Pokémon have been able to successfully pull it off.
7 ꦆ Underrated: Bug & Electric-Type
Aside from being a huge missed opportunity to give Volbeat and Illumise a cool type combination, the Bug/Electric combination in general is hugely underrated, particularly considering the perks that come with the two Pokémon who have this combination, Galvantular and Vikavolt. While Galvantuar isn't particularly noteworthy in the stats department, it's definitely not bad, and its access to the Compound Eyes ability coupled with its decent special attack means that it freely use Thunder over Thunderbolt with no worry of the 70% accuracy resulting in a miss. Vikavolt, on the other hand, is an unusually tanky Electric-type whose low speed would make for an excellent choice in Trick Room teams, but it never seems to make the cut and is largely ignored, despite its very higꦆh special attack and decent defenses.
6 ✅ 🐻 Overrated: Psychic & Fairy-Type
Since the introducti🃏on of the Fairy-type, many Psychic-types introduced in previou🎐s generations were retroactively given the Fairy-typing. While this made sense on the likes of Gardevoir, where the Fairy-type is fairly understandable, it has since also been given to Hatterene, Galarian Rapidash, and, for some reason, Mr. Mime. What could have been a unique type combination for a beloved generation three Pokémon has been repeated so many times that it is no longer special and seems like it is as common as the Normal/Flying-type combination.
5 ꦛ Underrated: Psychic & Normal-Type
Although the two Pokémon who have this combination, Oranguru and Indeedee, are generally seen as amazing in double battles, they are more known for their moveset or abilities rather than their type combination, which has some serious missed potential. Aside from the Normal-typing making them immune to Ghost-type attacks, wꩲhich are fairly common, the Psychic-type also removes the Fighting-type weakness Normal-type Pokémon all have. This combination could have easily been used on the likes of Mr. Mime and Meowstic and would have fit their design, as well as made both stand out a little more from the crowd of other Psychic-types available.
4 Overrated: Water & Elꦗectric-Type
To be fair, like the Bug and Steel-type combination, the Water and Electric-type combination has been blown out of proportion due to just one Pokémon. Following generation five changing the way the 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Rotom forms worked, Rotom-W made it a very popular comꦏbination despite not being the first to have this typing.
Lanturn has had the Water and Elꦓectric-typing since generation two, but it has never been able to stand out from Rotom-W's shadow despite having decent defensive stats, aꦬ much wider movepool, and a great design to boot.
3 Underrated: Water &🍃amp; Fighting-Type
There was promise with this type combination in generation one, as Poliwrath showed that it was a unique type that shouldn't be messed with. Seven generations later, only two other Pokémon have had this combination, Keldeo and Urshifu, and one is mythical while the other is a legendary. Aside from the Fighting-type being able to handle most Water-type Pokémon's ♎weak points, most notably their inability to deal with other Water-types, there should be far more Pokémon with this type and mono-type Pokémon like Floatzel could have stood 💜out more had they had this extra typing.
2 Overrated: ൲Fire & Flying-Type
Despite their enormous weakness to Stealth R༒ocks, a move that is almost mandatory in singles teams, Pokémon like Charizard and Talonflame are still used much more frequently than would be expected. Even discounting their use in battle, the Fire and Flying-type combination has been very common and has appeared on multiple legendary Pokémon to boot. While many other Fire-type Pokémon struggle to make an impact, those with the additional Flying-type seem to always stand out among the others, either due to their status in the community, their stats, or their abilities.
1 Underr🍰ated: Fire & Bug-Type ܫ
So far, only two Pokémon have the Fire and Bug-type combination: Volcarona and Centiscorch. Like Fire and Flying-type Pokémon, they are incredibly weak to Stealth Rocks, but despite sharing this weakness, Fire and Bug-types aren't nearly as common both in competitive battles and in the world of Pokémon. Volcarona saw a great deal of use over the years, but it has largely been overshadowed by newer Pokémon and Centiscorch has failed to make much of an impact despite it having a decent 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Gigantamax form and G-Max move.
