Gamers around the world can soon try to be the very best, like no one ever was, without needing to resort to emulation, as the upcoming Nexomon: Extinction will be competing with the Pokémon franchise in 2020.
Nexomon: Extinction is an upcoming monster-catching RPG with beautiful visuals that is coming to various modern platforms later this year. The story has a darker tone than Pokémon, as the world is on the brink of extinction at the hands of Tyrant Nexomon. It's up to the player to join the Tamers guild and restore balance to the world. There are over 300 Nexomon for the player to catch and use in battle, as they travel a world whose visuals resemble those of a more cartoonish Stardew Valley.
It might seem foolish for anyone to try and compete with Pokémon at its own game, but it's not as far-fetched an idea as people might think. The Yo-Kai Watch franchise briefly dominated the sales in Japan, while Temtem has seen amazing success on Steam. The Pokémon franchise is often acc♛used of being stagnant and not innovating or refining its design, so the floor is open for other franchises to try and find an audience among those expecting more from their monster-catching RPGs.
Nexomon: Extinction will be released forꦺ Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStati🌱on 4, and Xbox One in summer 2020.
