It seems that a second evolution for Charmeleon was planned for Pokémon Diamond & Pearl at some point in development, based on findings in a recent leak involving the fourth generation of Pokémon games.
Charizard has always been one of the most popular Pokémon in the series, dating back to Pokémon Red & Blue and the early days of the anime. This is why it was one of only two Pokémon to receive two Mega Evolutions (the other being Mewtwo), as well as receiving a unique Gigantamax form in Pokémon Sword & Shield.
The source code for Pokémon Diamond & Pearl recently leaked online and fans have been pouring through its files in search of buried secrets. Those expecting a leak on the same level as 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:the Space World '97 version of Pokémon Gold & Silver will be disappointed, as Game Freak seemingly reached a point where the roster of new Pokémon was decided 🌺before they were added to the game.
There is one interesting finding, however, in the form of a Pokémon that was cut from the game. According to eclipse_tt on Twitter, there is information on a Pokémon that was scrubbed from Pokémon Diamond & Pearl during development. The Pokémon's🎐 name is Rizaagan a🍎nd it's classed as a Flame Pokémon
Its placement in the internal files is between Magmortar and Porygon-Z, suggesting that it was another Generation I evolution Pokémon (one of several introduced in Pokémon Diamond & Pearl). Based on ▨the name and the category, it seems that this Pokémon could have been an alternate version of Charizard that was🅠 cut during development, as Charizard's name in Japan is Lizardon.
It only took two🦄 more generations of Pokémon games for Charizard to receive alternate forms, but we have to wonder what the plan for this alternate version of Charizard could have been? It's possible that it would have required a Trade Item (similar to Electivire and Magmortar) and that it would have changed type. It's impossible to say based on the name, as all other information regarding the Pokémon was scrubbed from the game, but it's interesting to ꦓspeculate as to what could have been.
