Pokemon’s puzzles have never been too difficult. Maybe you got stuck on the Strength boulders in Ice Path, or struggled to work out the logic of Wallace’s Gym, but you were a child back 𒁏then. Those kinds of things wouldn&rsqu💃o;t trouble you now. The Braille to unlock the Regis, on the other hand, was completely unfair, albeit easily solved with the help of the internet or a visually impaired friend.
If you want a real test, Pokemon ROM hacks are the answer. Whatever you want, someone will have made it. An incredibly difficult version of Emerald where Gym Leaders have maxed IVs and AI based on former VGC World Champions? Kaizo is your friend. Want a completely different gameplay experience from your regular nuzlocke? There’s a 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Hades-esque Pokemon roguelite hack. And you want puzzles? How does an escape room soun🍷d?
Fire Red VR Missions isn’t youꦚr average escape room. It’s not just a puzzle where all the keys look like Voltorb and the codes are written in Unown, it’s a test of how well you know Pokemon, and how you can use a few scarce resources to beat trainers and unlock the ending. One mission gives you an Electrode, a Golem, and a Gengar that each only know the move Explosion, and you have to work out how to beat a succession of trainers while also blowing up enough rocks to get to the finish line. Normal Pokemon rules don’t really apply here: using Explosion will faint you, but it can also be used in lieu of Rock Smash.
I’m get🐟ting ahead of myself. Things start off simply enough, but even the game’s easiest mode soon throws you a✃ curveball. I think the Porygon level is the perfect example of what to expect from the game, so I’ll explain the puzzle to you briefly.
You start off with a level 50 Porygon2. It knܫows the moves Conversion, Tackle, Sharpen, and Defense Curl. Head into a battle and you’ll get molliwhopped. How is this awful moveset meant to beat a Sandslash, an Audino, and a Muk to reach the exit? And why is there a Move Deleter🅘 before the three trainers?
If you worked out how to do it from that, you’re either lying or you’ve already played the game. ꧟If you haven’t got it yet, let meꩲ give you a hint. Rule one of Fire Red VR Missions: always check your bag. Oh, you checked your bag? In this particular mission, you’ll find some handy TMs. Iron Tail, Shadow Ball, and Aerial Ace suddenly make things very different.
There’s still a bit of finicking to complete the escape room, but you’ve probably guessed the basics. Apply TM to Porygon. Delete other moves. Use Conversion to change your type in battle. Use your TMed move to beat your opponent. It’s a𝐆 logic puzzle that uses Pokemon types and niche mechanics to test your knowledge of the game in ways that the main series never would, and it’s a brilliant brain teaser for all PokeFans out there. Beats a Sporcle quiz any day.
I wouldn’t want puzzles this challenging in a regular Pokemon game, but as a standalone ROM hack, VR Missions is fantastic fun for the committed PokeFan. And don’t let the name put you off – you can 🥃play this in any emulator, the Virtual Reality just refers to the in-universe lore of the puzzles, where your character dons a headset to test themselves.
I’ve detailed a couple of the earliest, easiest missions𝓰 in this article, but things step up into real brain-ticklers as you progress. Want to prove you know the𒀰 precisements of how Camouflage works? Want to see just how broken Smeargle can get? Want to murder a Dragonite in cold blood with a PokePistol? Okay that last one is made up, but if you really want to test your Pokemon knowledge and puzzle-solving chops, Fire Red VR Missions is the game for you. Just make sure you’re prepared to think outside the Dustox.
