After nine generations of Pokemon, four of which have been remade at least once, it makes sense that some creatures would ꩵappear more often than others, particularly those from earlier game🎃s. While virtually zero Pokemon have appeared in every mainline game to date, several have appeared in the majority of them.
While some players believe that this is a good thing, as they are able to always use their favoไrites no matter which game they are playing, others find that it detracts from any new Pokemon released and results in many new species falling by the wayside as a result.
Updated January 1, 2023 by Ryan Bamsey: With the recent release of Pokemon Scarlet & Violet, the favoritism is really starting to become apparent! Some of these Pokemon were already overrepresented in the games and still made it into the most recent release. We've gone ahead and updated this list with yet more of the most populous Pokemon.
15 Gastly
Gastly and the rest of its evolutionary line are the go-to Ghost-type Pokemon in so many games. In fact, it was the only Ghost-type evolutionary line in the first generation! It took a short sabbatical during Ruby & Sapphire to give the spotlight to the newer ghosts, but it's been a mainstay for so long, most recently appearing in Scarlet & Violet.
Gengar, Gastly's fully-evolved form, has been a highlight of the competitive scene for many years, and it even got both a Mega Evolution and a Gigantamax form when those gimmicks were introduced.
14 Tentacool
Ah, Tentacool, the Zubat of the sea (spoilers for an upcoming entry, by the way). Tentacool is readily available in every single generation, and quite easily at that! The only games where acquiring a Tentacool is a bit of a chore are Black & White, where they must come from the Dream World, and Sword & Shield, where they actually are unobtainable unless you trade one.
While Tentacool is technically not present in Scarlet & Violet, t𝔍here is a new Pokemon called Toedscool, which is so heavily inspired by Tentacool that it might as well count as an alternate form.
13 Butterfree📖 💃
Although Butterfree didn't always have the highest popularity compared to many others of its generation, it has stuck around long enough to be usable in the majority of regions. Reappearing in 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Sword & Shield, though without its usual counterpart Beedriဣll, it actually saw a decent amount of usage thanks in large part to its new Gigantamax from and signature move, G-Max Befuddle, making it a decent choice for a dedicated Dynamax Pokemon in many teams.
So far,🐈 Butterfree has only been unobtainable in Ruby & Sapphire, Emerald, Black, Black 2, Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire, and most recently Shining Pearl, Legends: Arceus,𝕴 and Scarlet & Violet.
12 Snorlax
For the most part, Snorlax has appeared as a sleeping obstacle that players need to find a way around during the𝓰 main story, most notably in𒉰 Red & Blue and X & Y, though one made a return in Gold & Silver, indicating that Red only caught one of the two available in the original games.
Although Snorlax has appeared in the same number of games as Butterfree, it is somewhat harder to obtain in certain titles, particularly Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum, where it is only obtainable by evolving a rare Munchlax. The only games Snorlax isn't available in are Ruby & Sapphire, Emerald, Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire, though it can be traded to those games via the others in their respective generations. It's also absent from Scarlet & Violet, though time will tell whether it remains absent through the rest of the ninth generation.
11 Ralts
While Ralts only started appearing from the third generation onwards, its evolutionary line's immense popularity seems to have kept it relevant ever since. It's even available as one of the Shadow Pokemon you can catch in Pokemon XD: Gale of Darkness.
The line's popularity proved so great that Kirlia received an alternate evolution in the fourth generation in Gallade, Gardevoir received a Mega evolution in the sixth generation, and the ninth generation introduced some paradox Pokemon based on the iconic Psychic-types.
10 Chansey
Despite its relative rarity in the games themselves, Chansey has been in more games than you might think! Every generation has quite easy access to Chansey, whether it can be caught in the wild o♐r evolved from the slightly more common Happiny - the only games that prevent easy access to the iconic healer Pokemon are Sword & Shield.
Much of Chansey's popularity can be put down to its status as Nurse Joy's faithful companion in the Pokemon anime, where it appears pretty consistently.
9 Dragonite
As the original Dragon-type Pokemon, as well as the first pseudo-legendary Pokemon, it makes sense that 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Dragonite would appear in many of the mainline Pokemon games. Although it didn't return in the base game of Sword & Shield, it was eventually available to players once again in The Crown Tundra DLC.
Like Snorlax, it is unavailable in the original three Hoenn games as well as its remakes and is also able to be traded into those games from others in their generations. Unlike Snorlax, Dragonite is a little easier to obtain, as it is often a gift Pokemon in the form of Dratini or a Game Corner prize. In most recent terms, Dragonite can't be found in Legends: Arceus or Scarlet & Violet.
8 Eevee
Becoming something of a secondary mascot for the series in recent years, Eevee is one of the most readily available Pokemon across the series, and for good reason. As it has eight potential evolutions, many of which are incredibly powerful for their type, Eevee is a solid teammate choice noꦑt only during the main playthrough but also for competitive battling.
Eevee is unavailable in the originไal three Hoenn games as we꧅ll as Black & White, though it does appear in both the Hoenn remakes and the Black & White sequel games.
7 Pikachu
As the mascot of the entire series, it would have been safe to assum🍃e that Pik𝐆achu appears in almost every game. However, Pikachu is often hard to obtain, particularly in early generations and is often not worth the trouble to catch once it finally becomes available to the player.
Although it could be obtained through the Dream Radar mini-game or through a game transfer, it was entirely unavailable in the fifth-generation games. From X & Y on through Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl, Pikachu's original cry/growl noise was replaced with voice acting; Legends: Arceus brought things back to the old-school vibe, though we suspect that might have been a one-off nod to the "distant past."
6 Scyther
The original edgelord of Pokemon, Scyther is another pretty rare encounter that has nonetheless appeared in the majority of games. It's often quite difficult to find, being exclusive to the Bug Contest in Johto and only added with the expansion pass areas in Sword & Shield.
Thanks to its popularity even in the first game, it received no less than two evolutions, Scizor and, more recently in Pokemon Legends: Arceus, Kleavor. You can even find Scyther in Pokemon Stadium 2, where it's the star of the Clear Cut Challenge minigame.
