Pokémon Gold & Silver and Pokémon Crystal were a massive upgrade for the Pokémon series. Some of their most famous additions include a massive list of new Pokémon, a longer adventure with a return to Kanto, breeding, an in-game clock, and the brand new🌃 Dark-💮 and Steel-types.

Altogether it made for some beautifully deep RPGs, as well as the largest Pokémon adventures at that point in the series. As monumental as this gen💎eration was, though, it would be wrong to say it’⭕s perfect. Alongside all the great traits and mechanics are a fair number of problems, and veteran trainers forget and ignore these flaws far too often.

10 Your Mom Wastes Your Money ꦯ

One of the weirꦗder mechanics of these games happens right in the beginning as you start your journey when your mom asks if she can have some of the money you earn. Now and then, this money will go to an item that she then buys for you as a gift.

This is one of the biggest wastes of resources in any Pokémon game, as the items she gets are inexpensive and available in regular shops. If she delivered rare items it might be more useful, and she does provide rarer battle items in the Pokémon HeartGold & SoulSilver, but in the original games, it’s a mas𒐪sive wast💜e of your money.

9 ꦰ🌠 Breeding Is Slightly Useless

Breeding has become an important part of competitive Pokémon in recent gener꧃ations, as a way to pass down stats and teach unusual moves to your Pokémon. It’s an incredibly deep mechanic with several breeding group🌳s and other mysterious mechanics, and even in its debut is undoubtedly impressive.

That said, its purpose is rather limited, since stats were much more difficult to come by and raise as it was. Most of what you can do with breeding is get the new baby Pokémon like Pichu and Smoochum, but otherwise, it’s a lot of time for not a whole lot of value besides getting copies of rare species to trade with🐭 🍬friends.

8 🐲 Wandering Legendaries

Pokémon Gold & Silver’s cover Pokémon might have been the new legendary birds 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Lugia and Ho-Oh, but th🤪e more interesting and difficult ones to capture were the legendary dogs Entei, Suicune, and Raikou. These three wander the entire region, and if you encounter them will run away immediately.

This is a great way to make these Pokémon seem rarer, but in practice, it just ends up being annoying to repeatedly travel back and forth for another encounter if you fail. There are moves and strategies to keep them from running, but it’s a weird task that most players can find frustrating, rather thanℱ engaging.

7 Anno🌳ying Phone Calls

One forgotten new feature to the game was your Pokégear, which combined your map with a radio and cell phone. Over your journey, trainers will ask for your number so that they can share facts with you and rematch, making for more replayability than the original Pokémon games.

However, most of these calls are pointless, and you’ll be stopped constantly to listen to trainers tell you useless facts or invite you to battle before you can use Fly to easily return to them. This feature did give us the meme of Youngster Joey and hi🎐s all-star Rattata, but otherwise𒀰, it’s rare for your phone to be anything besides annoying.

6 𓂃 Weak Trainers

This game can be exceptionally difficult when it comes to the Gym Leaders and your rival✅, primarily because leveling up is harder than ever in this game. So many of the random trainers have unevolved and low-level Pokémon, causing them to give painfully low amounts of experience points.

As a result, some late Gym Le🏅aders and the Elite 4 can be astonishingly difficult, since you’re spreading your experience points so thin. You either have to stick to three or four🧜 Pokémon, or you’ll need to do a ton of wild Pokémon grinding, neither of which is a great option.

5 Fightingܫ Team Rocket 🐽

Team Rocket especially suffers from the weak train🐷er problem, not helped by a very short list of Pokémon that the grunts can use. Zubats and Rattatas are extremely bountiful, making for every encounter to be incredibly bori🎃ng.

If these parts of the story were short it might be forgivable, but between the Radio Tower and the base in Mahogany Town, you spend an obscene amount of time fighting these identical trainers. Defeating Team Rocket in this game is nothing more than an irritating ch�𒉰�ore.

4 Very Fe🧸w Steel-Types ᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚ⁤⁤⁤⁤ᩚ⁤⁤⁤⁤ᩚ⁤⁤⁤⁤ᩚ𒀱ᩚᩚᩚ

One of the new types to the Pokémon series was Steel, meant to represent metals and machines. This typing had many resistances and was meant for greatly defensive Pokémon, but most important was the resistance to Psychic-type moves, which were reg🔯rettably strong in the first generation of Pokémon.

Unfortunately, the number of 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Steel-type Pokémon in the type’s debut is minuscule. Magneton has it added to its Electric-type self, and both Onix and Scyther get metallic evolu꧃tions, and Forretress is the only new Johto Pok෴émon with it. These are certainly strong Pokémon, but it’s so rare that its existence is somewhat meaningless in this game.

3 Weak 🅠Dark-Types ﷺ

The other🌳 new typing, Dark-type, has its share of similar problems too. There are ma🤡ny more new species with this typing than Steel and are impressively immune to Psychic-type moves rather than just resistant, but while they’re more numerous than Steel-types they’re far weaker.

This is much because all Dark-type moves before Pokémon Diamond & Pearl were Special Attacks, which use a stat in which m🐠ost of these Pokémon were quite low. Pokémon like Tyranitar and Sneasel were unable to use any strong moves, and others like Houndoom and Murkrow were too fragile to be worth 🐎their offense.

2 ♏ Kanto’s Wild Pokémon

Getting to explore Kanto with your higher-level Pokémon is one of the greatest features of this generation. You can explore most of the right from the gate and don’t have a strict order of 💖gyms, making for a uniquely open-world experience.

The problem with this, though, is that the game uses the same level ranges of wild Pokémon as Pokémon Red & Blue, so the wild Pokémon here are extremely low in level. If you catch one, it’s nearly impossible to train one up to be in your teaꦑm since it’s so behind the rest of your team, so the tall grass is almost exclusively a nuisance.

1 🎶 ꩵ Friendship is Confusing

Perhaps the most frustrating thing about these games that are most forgotten is its introduction of an invisible stat called Friendship, which is mean🎶t to express the bond between you and your Pokémon. This seems straightforward, but besides vague words from a Friendship-checking NPC, there’s little explanation of this new mechanic and no simple way to check a Pokémon's friendship level.

This would be fine if it wasn’t a commonly-used stat, but having high happiness is a new and oddly common evolution method with ten different species that require it to evolve. This can make raising these Pokémon slow and frustrating, as there’s little in-game detailing about this stat that’s remained just as poorly explained in every Pokémon game since.
