For the first installme🎶nts on the Nin𝄹tendo Switch, the Pokemon Company introduced players to a brand-new region geographically based off England. Using a blend of modern and medieval concepts in their worldbuilding, the result was Galar, a region not a direct copy of just England, but rather inspired by the UK as a whole.

Much as the Hoe🅺nn region wa🌌s designed as a rotated version of Kyūshū, Galar may have been designed as an upside-down version of the UK du🃏e to the locations of its towns and cities. This means that locations like Wyndon, in the north, would be found in real🌜-world London, which is in the southern area of Britain.

Lake District National Park Mountains in England

One of the most breathtaking locations to be introduced in Sword & Shield was the Wild Area, a vast expanse of open land where players could roam freely and 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:cat𓂃ch whatever Pokemon they could find. The first time players are introduced to the area, they arrive i💝n the southern half of the vicinit𓄧y. This section of the Wild Area is based on the Lake District National Park in Cumbria County, renowned for its beautiful lakes and mountains.

The northern half of the Wild Area, which is unlocked later, takes inspiration from the Peak District National Park, known for its hills and valleys. Both parks are popular touri💮st attractions, allowing visitors to get close to the natural flora and fauna of England.

9 ♕ Postwick - Keswick, Cumbria

Town of Keswick, Cumbria, England

The player begins their Galar journey in Postwick, a small green town where they live in a cozy cottage-style home with their Mum and her Munchlax. There exists a town named Postwick in Norfolk County, however, Galar's Postwick is better linked geographically to the market town of Keswick, Cumbria. Keswick is actually located within the Lake District National Park, containing a population of under 6,000.

45 minutes south of Keswick is Grizedale Forest, which could have inspired the Slumbering Weald near Postwick. The structures and altar at the Slumbering Weald bear resemblance to♕ many of the structures found within Slumbering Weald.

8 Motostoke - Manchester, Greater Manchester 👍

City of Manchester in England UK

One of the recurring motifs of Pokemon Sword & Shield is the influence of soccer or rather, football. From the jerseys to the large stadiums, the UK's love for the sport is unrelenting and represented especially within the city of Motostoke. This is because the real Motostoke is none other than Manchester, from which the famous Manchester City and Manchester United Football Clubs take their namesake (though the latter is based in Old Trafford).

Motostoke in Galar Sword Shield

The third-largest city in Britain, Manchester's role in the nation's industry is present in its railway motifs, found in Motostoke and in real life. The Motostoke Stadium, presided over by Gym Leader Kabu, appears to be based on the Victorian Neo-Gothic architecture of Manchester Town Hall.

7 Hammerlocke - Birminghamও, West Mid𓄧lands

Birmingham Town in England

Hammerlocke is one of the most historic cities of Galar and the location of the final stadium players must triumph over in order to challenge the Gala💃r Pokemon League. This stadium, known as the Hammerlocke Stadium, is likely based on the Warwick Castle in Warwick, Warwickshire. One of the most famous castles in all the UK, Warwick Castle was originallyꦕ built by William the Conqueror and was once occupied by King Henry II.

The city of Hammerlocke itself is more likely to be inspired by the nearby city of Birmingham, which is only a half-hour drive from Warwick. Thꦿe second-largest city in the UK, Birmingham is also historically significant as the birthplace of Matthew Boulton, who developed the industrial steam engine with James Watt in the thick of the Industrial Revolution.

Shrouded in mystery, the city of Turffield is where players obtain their first badge from Grass-type Gym Leader Milo. In the western part of the town lie massive, strange glyphs depicting a Gigantamax Pokemon, as well as a face board of the Pokemon Stonjourner. Route Four, leading just out of Turffield, features wide fields surrounded by stone walls. These walls, known as field boundaries, are very commonly found in Britain's agricultural areas.

NPC and player in Turffield Galar Sword & Shield

Turffield, as well as Stonjourner itself, are obvious references to the Stonehenge monument, a prehistoric monument of standing stones (similar to Geosenge To🔜wn in Kalos referencing the Carnac stones)ꦏ. The town of Turffield i𒊎s based on Amesbury, the oldest settlement in all of the UK.

5 Stow-on-side - Buxton, Derbyshire? Or perhaps Stoke-on-Tren⛄t, Staffordshire?

Buxton town in England UK

A rough little town in the mountains, Stow-on-side is home to the Stow-on-side Stadium, which is run by either Fighting-type 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Gym Leader Bea in Sword or Ghost-type Gym Leader Allister in Shield. The interesting part of Stow-on-side is that it is completely unclear where the town exists in the real world. Stow-on-side's western position in Galar should reveal a similar town on the eastern side of Britain, though the Pokemon Company nor the fans have revealed where this might be.

Stow-on-Side town in Pokemon Sword & Shield

Due to it being a market town on high elevation, comparisons have been drawn to the t༒own of Buxton, the highest-altitude market town in all of England. The hyphenated name and pottery influence 𓄧could also be derived from Stoke-on-Trent, a city known for its Pottery Museum and local artwork. Players doing a Galar tour in the UK may want to visit both settlements just in case.

One of the most mystical locations in Galar, Ballonlea is depicted in the games as a fantastical market town where 168澳𒅌洲幸运5开奖网:D&D players might start a campaigꦆn from. As Ballonlea is found in the northwestern part of the region, the real-world village of Lavenham can be found on the southeastern side of Britain. The fairy tale aspect of Ballonlea is largely inspired by Lavenham's witch legends and 15th-century medieval cottages.

Despite only being able to access two such cottages in the game, the exterior appearance of these buildings is almost identical to how they look in the real world. Mushrooms also grow around the village, and the Lavenham Farmer's Market has hosted various mushroom foraging and cooking events.

3 🐬 Circhester - Bath🅰, Somerset

City of Bath in England UK

The Gym of the city of Circhester changes slightly between versions of the Galar games, with Gym Leader Gordie using Rock-types in Sword and Gym Leader Melony using Ice-types in Shield. Besides being known for its alternating Gym Leaders and tranquil music, the city features a large hot spring in its center, referred to as the Hero's Bath.

Circhester city centre in Galar Pokemon Sword & Shield

This bath is not only a reference to the British city of Bath, England but the actual Roman thermae that is preserved within the city. 2 🐽 Wyndon - London, Greater London🍎

Cityscape of London England

The de-facto capital of the Galar region, Wyndon is the largest city in Galar and the second-largest city in the entire Pokemon world. It s✱erves as the home of Wyndon Stadium, where ♋Trainers compete in the Champion Cup after obtaining all eight Gym Badges. Beyond its sheer size, the city takes much inspiration from London, the capital of England and largest city in the UK.

Wyndon Ferris Wheel as seen in Pokemon Sword & Shield

Wyndon's un-rideable Ferris wheel, the Galar Hurricane, is based on London's famous London Eye, and the Rose of the Rondelands is based on the historic Westminster Palace. Like the Rose of the Rondelands, the Palace of Westminster is an example of Gothic architecture and contains a clock tower, known as Big Ben in the real world. The Rose Tower is a nod to The Shard, the tallest building in the UK.
