When Pokémon Red and Blue were release𝓀d in 1998 in North America, it created a tidal wave throughout pop༒ culture. No matter where you looked, there was something Pokémon related. Toys at🐷 Burger King, a show on television, - Pokémon was, and still is, massive, currently holding the spot for th꧒e most successful media franchise of all time.
Needless to say, all of the world’s attention was directed at Gamefreak’s next 𓆉move. The next game was extremely anticipated and was announced in 1997 before No෴rth America even got Red and Blue. This is because Red and Blue were released two years earlier in Japan. Due to the reception of the first games, dꦍevelopment for the next games, Pokémon Silver and Gold, had started immediately after Red and Blue were released.
The announcement for the new games led to a large amount of speculat🅰ion among schoolyard chums and water cooler businessmen alike. So we are going to check out 5 of the wildest rumors people believed and 5 rumors that turned out to be true.
10 RUMOR: Pikablue
As mentioned previously, Pokémon Gold and Silver were announced in Japan 1 year prior to the North American launch of the original games. Because of🐲 this, all of thꦅe second generation Pokémon that were shown ♏in Japa꧅n were mistaken for hidden Pokémon in Red and Blue by North American players. This caused plenty of speculation and rumor﷽s revolving around how to catch these mysterious Pokémon.
The Pikablue rumor stems from this and a mistranslated⛄ line in Red and Blue - a nonplayable character comments on how a 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Pikachu that he traded had evolved. T🥂his combination led North American players to believe that generatﷺion 2 Pokémon Maril was actually Pikablue.
9 TRUE: Baby Pokémon 🌱
This is another rumor birthed from the consumption of Japanese media by North American players. Before the release of Gold and Silver, there were images of baby Pokémon floating around, leading many to believe that there were to be baby forms of all of their favorite Pokémon. This turned out to be true, with many Pokémon like Pichu being the baby counterpaᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚ𒀱ᩚᩚᩚrt to Pikachu.
8 RUMOR: Celebi
There were many diffꦇerent false methods that were passed around on how to catch the elusive Celebi, many of which were very tedious, time-consuming, and usually revolved around the shrine found Ilex forest.
The methods included collecting the rainbow wing and silver wing and bringing them to🍌 the Illex shrine, catching all 28 Unown Pokémon, spelling out Celebi with the Unown in their p🔯arty, and catching all Pokémon aside from Celebi and Mew.
In the end, there was actually no significance to the shrine other than set dress🌺ing and the only way to attain Celebi was through events that 𓆉were held before the game was released, similarly to how Mew was given out.
7 ⛄ 🐷 TRUE: Leafeon
During the demo that was shown in 1997, the sprite for what 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:looked like a new Eeveelution was shown. Many speculated what element it would represent in the . After Gold and Silver were released, there was only Umbreon and Espon with no third Eeveelution. Many theorized that a specific set of events must take place in order to obtain the third Eeveelution but it wasn’t actually in the game. 6 RUMOR: Shiny Gyarados
Shiny Pokemon is something every fan is well aware of in the eighth generation of pocket monsters. However, back in the second generation, the sight of a different colored Gyarados led to wild rumors about other colors of Gyarados, mainly a gold Gyarados. Players believed that if you su💛rfed to certain points in ☂the game, you could encounter a gold Gyarados.
In r🔯eality, this was just the first taste many got to shiny🧸 Pokemon, which are co💯lor variants of the monsters and are much hard𒁏er to come across than the traditionally colored creatures.
5 ✅ TRUE: Ho-Oh ♌
In the first episode of the Pokémon anime, there was a mysterious golden bird flying through the sky, bringing a rainbow of color along with it. Plenty of rumors and speculation followed. Who was this mysterious bird? It wasn’t part of the original 151, yet it was in the first episode of the anime, which at the time only included Pokémon from the first generation.
This mysterious bird was later revealed to be the legendary bird Ho-Oh who could be caught in Pokémon Gold.
4 RUMOR: Shuckle
If you have the turtle Pokémon Shuckle carry a berry tꦇo hold, there is a chance that the berry will turn into berry juice. However꧃, one rumor that floated around was that if Shuckle continued to hold the transformed berry juice long enough it would then turn into a rare candy. This rumor persisted all the way up to the re-releases of the games ಌon the Nintendo DS, Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver when data miners scoured the game file and found no evidence ♏of Shuckle having such an ability in theꦿ game.
3 ܫ TRUE: Kanto
When Gold and Silver was first revealed, many thought it was going to be a small upgrade, similar to how Pokémon Yellow was an upgrade to Red and Blue. When it was finally revealed that the new game would be an entirely new game, many speculated that the old map of Kanto would still be explorable. Rumors about 8 gym leaders were being passed around. It turned out to actually be true - whe✱n you complete the gym leaders in Johto you could return to Kanto and fight the original 8 gym leaders also.
2 RUMOR: Chansey Creates Togepi
The simplest of the rumors, yet the weirdest is that the egg held by Chansey could turn into a Togepi if enough time elapsed. It was believed that if you had a Chansey in your party long enough, it would end up giving birth to a Togepi. This was based solely on the fac🥀t that Chancy holds an egg and Togepi looks like an egg. This, however, was only a rumor and the egg on Chansey’s chest was part of its original design and Togepi could only be attained through a separate egg entirely.
1 TRUE: Red
This one ties into the last entry. When it was revealed that you could return to Kanto, kids all around the playground spoke of fighting your character from the original game, Red. Of course, no one believed those kids as they were also the kids who told you to use strength on the truck in Red and Blue in order to obtain Mew. It turns out that they were right! When you climb Mt. Silver you find Red. He has Pikaꦛchu, all of the original starters, Snorlax and Espeon.
