Pokémon GO developer Niantic is kicking off a flurry of February events with an hou⛦r full of Onix. It's part of a♔ new experimental type of mini-event called the Pokémon Spotlight Hour. As the name says, Niantic will have one Pokémon spawn more frequently for one hour even outside its natural habitat. However, the star Pokémon is kept secret until the very moment the event starts. Thankfully for Western players, the future beings known as New Zealanders have confirmed that Onix is the spotlight Pokémon.
Pokémon Spotlight Hour was announced in Niantic's about February events. All it said was that today, February 4, a surprise Pokémon would spawn more frequently 🍃between 6 p.m. and 7 p.m. local time.
Pokémon GO players in New Zealand tend to be the first to break any news about in-game happenings, a🎐s they're the first to experience them. This proved true with Pokémon Spotlight Hour, with many New Zealand players sharing screenshots of increased Onix spawns to Pokémon GO ꧅subreddit .
The Silph Road community takes a scientific approach to Pokémon GO, ask🌳ing a large number of fans to provide evidence of a claim before accepting it as fact. To that end, many users sent screenshots of the increased Onix activity. This also gives a clearer look of how Pokémon Spotlight Hour will play out.
Perhaps the biggest takeaway is that Spotlight Hour isn't as grandiose as Community Day. In that event, the featured Pokémon spawns with extreme frequency. It also has a very high chance of appearing in its coveted shiny form, to the point that everyone who💎 participates in Community Day gets at least one shiny Pokémon. That doesn't seem to be the case with the Onix Spotlight Hour.
New Zealand and Australian players report that the Onix spawns were very low. Many of them only caught a handful after playing for the full hour. Furthermore, the odds o🌟f catching a shiny Onix seem the same as always. That said, other Silph Road users expressed excitement at the thought of catching more Onix to bolster their competitive team for the new GO Battle League. So it seems that the success of the Onix event is dependent on what you're looking for going into i🦩t.
If you want to be like Brock, ♚be sure to head out today at 6 p.m. your time🐷.
