For the most part, the trainers in Pokémon Red and Blue aren't too difficult, being less of a test of skill and more as roadblocks to stop the player from moving through the game too fast. This often makes the original 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Pokémon titles somewhat tedious when trainers can't be avoided, but battles are usually enjoyable enough to make up fജor this.

Although this has changed♚ somewhat in recent years, though not to a great extent, there are a handful of trainers in the first generation games that are still challenging to the player, so long as they aren't over-leveled.

10 𓆉 Youngster Calvin

This Youngster hiding in Route 3 can be battled quite soon after defeating Brock, which is why he can be one of the more challenging early game trainers. Sporting some killer shorts and a level 14 Spearow, his constant use of Leer and Fury Attack can make quick work of any budding trainer's team, particularly at this point in the game. Since grinding before facing Brock is one of the worst experiences any player can have in Red and Blue, many players will opt to go into his gym battle under-leveled, with either their Squirtle or Bulbasaur to make things a little eas🔯ier.

9 Lass Iris

She may only have one Pokémon on her team, but it's more than able to sweep through teams if players are particularly unlucky. Her level 14 Clefairy may not be the most powerful Pokémon in Mt. Moon, but its constant use of Sing 👍to incapacitate the player's Pokémon makes her even more annoying than the swarms of Zubat that accost the player every five steps. If Calvin was easy to beat than Iris probably will be too, but that doesn't mean players shouldn't keep on their guard.

8 Birdkeeper꧑ Ramiro

The trainers on Cycling Road are normally fairly easy to beat, tho❀ugh incredibly annoying since they tend to come out of nowhere while the player is barrelling down the hill on their shiny new bike. One trainer who stands out is a humble Birdkeeper found on Route 18, just after𒈔 Cycling Road, who has a much higher level Pokémon than the rest of the trainers here.

His level 34 Dodrio may look silly, but those looks hide some devastating power behind them. Considering 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Erika's strongest Pokémon is only level 29, this is quite a large jump in levels if players head to Fuchsia City v🐼ia Cycling Road rather than Route 12, where the trainer's levels are much closer to the Grass-type gym leader's Pokémon.

7 Koga's 🌜Gym Trainers

There's no real stand out among the trainers who guard 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Koga in his gym, since all of them use either 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Poison Gas or Minimize, making them annoying at best since the player has to keep returning to the Pokemon Center between battles. Oneღ who might stand out is Tamer Edgar with his two level 33 Arbok and a level 33 Sandslash, the former two spamming Wrap and Poison Sting like there's no tomorrow, and the Sandslash constantly using Sand Attack. Unless players have leveled their Pokémon into the high 30's, its likely every one of these trainers will cause them some level of discomfort.

6 Ch𓂃anneler Tammy

In subsequent Pokémon games, the introduction of the Dark-type and more accessible Dark and 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Ghost-type moves made Pokémon Tower much easier to navigate. In generation one, however, players were stuck with whatever their fastest Pokémon was for taking down the Gastly line. One trainer in particular has a level 23 Haunter, which wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't for the fact it spams Lick and Confuse Ray like they're going out of style. Like many of the more difficult trainers in Red and Blue, its less about their levels and more👍 about𝄹 the tactics they employ.

5 🅷 Camper Ethan ꦡ

Mankey sitting on a branch with Vulpix’s tail peeking out behind it.

Back on Nugget Bridge, there's one trainer challenge, which isn't the final battle against the hilariously easy Team Rocket Grunt, that stands out among the rest. Sporting a level 18 Mankey, Camper Ethan looks, at first glance, like any other trainer with only one Pokémon, but a combination of factors makes him far ha꧅rder than the others on the bridge. For one, he is battled just after coming out of Mt. Moon, meaning players Pokémon are likely to be around level 16 if they didn't do any grinding before attempting Nugget Bridge. Then there's the fact that his Mankey knows Karate Chop, a move that seems to critical hit every other attack due to Mankey's speed, meaning even the best strategies can fa☂ll apart in a second.

4 Bug Catcher Elijah ꦐ 🎀

It seems strange to say that a Bug Catcher of all trainers is one of the harder trainers in a Pokémon game, but Elijah on Route 6 stands out among his inferior brothers. His level 20 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Butterfree, which knows all three Powder moves and Confusion, can make quick work of many Pokémon that aren't able to deal super effective damage o⭕r dodge its constant stream of Stun Spores and Sleep Powders.

This is the last point in the game where Butterfree will be a real threat, but its unusually high level compared to other trainer's Pokemon in the area helps it be very annoying and makes it one of the harder ea𓂃rly game battles.

3 Picnicker Lea𓂃h

The majority of trainers after Lt. Surge are fairly easy, since players will likely have had to grind before being able to defeat him. The one that stands out is Picnicker Leah in Rock Tunnel, who seems to be practicing for her stint in Koga's gym for the moves her Pokémon use. Her level 22 Bellsprout and Clefairy seem fairly weak at first, but then she employs the classic Wrap and Sing strategies that made certain parts of Red and Blue far harder than they should be.

2 🍒 Cool Trainer George 🌱

Arcanine, Exeggutor and Cloyster from Pokemon anime

Once players reach Victory Road, it's expected that the trainers they face should be on the stronger side, since they should have also defeated all eight gym leaders to get there. In Red and Blue, the trainers teams are all fairly balanced and decently leveled, but Cool Trainer George's stands out as the best. His level 43 Arcanine, Cloyster, and Exeggutor, while not the highest levels in Victory Road, are probably the greatest threat in terms of moves, levels, and type balance for a team. In FireRed and LeafGreen, his team got a power boost alongside many other Victory Roadꦇ trainers that made his team even more powerful.

1 🌳 Swim🐽mer Roland

Poliwhirl, Tentacool and Seadra from the Pokemon anime

Back on Route 21, just south of Pallet Town before Cinnabar Island, there are a good number of Swimmers who pose little threat to the player at that point, as they are likely to have left the Fire-type gym leader until after Koga and Sabrina have been dealt with. One Swimmer who does his best to be incredibly annoying is Roland, who has a level 32 Poliwhirl, Tentacool, and Seadra, and is probably the best trainer on this route. While not overly powerful, each of his Pokémon is able to incapacitate the player's Pokémon😼 in one way or another, with either Hypnosis, Wrap, Poison Sting, or Smoke Screen.
