While Pokemon with high Speed and Attack can dominate the competitive scene, Special Attackers can be just as deadly. Using less direct means to take down an opponent requires practice, skill, and the right stats. There's no use trying to use Physical Attackers to go head-to-head with Physical walls like Steelix or Garganacl, so Special Attackers like Gengar offer a direct counter.

The fusion with Spectrier grants Shadow Rider Calyrex an immense 165 Special Attack.
