For a type that many consider defensive or downright bad, the Ice-type has a whole host of great moves. Many Ice-type moves are incredibly useful, especially against the always-intimidating Dragon-types of the Pokemon world. Since a lot of Dragon-types are also Flying-type, Ice is a great choice as a double weakness for thos﷽e Pokemon.
Ice is also good against Grass-types and Ground-types. If you're hoping to take down any of these four types with an Ice-type Pokemon, here are some of the best moves in their arsenal.
Updated January 9th, 2022 by Quinton O'Connor: Whether you're thinking of adding a full-blown Ice-type Pokemon to your team or you want the best Ice move that your non-Ice pals can learn, we hope our list will continue to aid trainers entering Sword & Shield's ongoing competitive scene. This can also help greatly with the more recently-launched Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl, as Elite Four rematches (and even Gym Leader rematches!) are no joke at all.

There are a few one-hit k♏nockout moves in the world of Pokemon, or OHKO moves as they are often called by fans. These moves will instantly defeat any Pokemon, regardless of typing or attack power. The downside to them is that they have very low accuracy and only 5 base PP (Power Points).
Sheer Cold is one of these moves. The others🅠 are Fissure (Ground-type), Guillotine, and Horn Drill (both Normal-type). Being able to take down almost any Pokemon in one move is absolutely appealing, earning Sheer Cold a spot on the list. But using it is a real roll of the dice, a last resort of sorts when the going has gotten too rough to make a dent otherwise.

Glacial Lance is a move exclusive to Generation 8, a signature move of the Ice Rider form of Calyrex. It's a move that's fitting for a Legendary Pokemon, as it has an incredible base power of 130 with an accuracy of 100. Not only is this fantastic, but if used in a Double Battle, it will attack both opposing Pokemon while not harming your own teammate.
A spread move with that much firepower that has no downside to using it will always be great, and since Ice Rider Calyrex has such a high Attack stat, this is likely to dismantle opposing Pokemon all on its own. When a move goes this hard in every conceivable direction, its only weakness is the likelihood that its user will be banned from most tournaments — sorry, Calyrex, but you're just that good.

Ice Shard |

Ice Shard at first glance seems weak. It has a low base power of only 40, although a great accuracy🔯 of 100. What makes Ice Shard good is that it has priority💞. This means that it will always go first, even if the Pokemon using it is slower than the opposing one.
Even weak priority moves possess the potential to be incredible, as if the opposing Pokemon is at low health, you can kno𓂃c🧜k it out before they have the chance to do one final push of damage. If your Pokemon is on its last legs, it can also be used to make sure it does some damage on the way out.

When Kyurem transforms into its fusions with Reshiram and Zekrom, it gains access to two of its signature moves. When it is fused with Reshiram as White Kyurem, it learns the move Ice Burn. When fused with Zekrom, it'll be able to use Freeze Shock.
Ice Burn has a power of 140 and an accuracy rating of 90 percent. It has a 30 percent chance to leave the target with a burn. It takes two turns to use this move, like Solar Beam. 𝐆Freeze Shock is basically the same move, but instead of having a chance to burn, it has a chance to paralyze and is used by Black Kyurem instead.
Both moves are terrific, but — n🐓eedless to say — their extremely limited availability cannot be ignored.

Hail is a part of the weather lineup of moves. While Hailstorm is generally considered to be the weakest weather condition, Ice-types can make great use of it. Each turn, all Pokemon that aren't Ice will lose a bit of their health.
It will also hinder some other abilities that are weather-based such as Solar Beam and Morning Sun. Hail won't boost the damage of Ice-type moves like other weather conditions, but it does enable the use of special moves and boosts the accuracy of the powerful Blizzard so that it never misses.

Introduced in Generation 4, this Ice-type move is as intimidating as its name implies. Not because its base power is 60, mind you — that pretty much straꦗddles the border between pass𝄹able and skippable.
In addition to its basic stats, Avalanche has a bonus effect. It has a decreased priority, meaning it'll typically move after the opponent. If the opponent damages the user of Avalanche before it's used, it'll increase in power to 120. That's a fantastic amount of damage for a move with such reliable accuracy. Hand this to a slower Ice-type that can take a hit and turn the tables on your swifter foes.

Icicle Spear |
25, two to five times. |

Icicle Spear is a multi-hit move that can make contact two to five times when used. Its base power is 25 which is weak, however, if all hits connect then it will have 125 instead. This can be guaranteed if the Pokemon who uses it possesses the Ability known as Skill Link. Cloyster has this, and since it's an Ice-type it gets its STAB from using Icicle Spear as well.
An excellent online strategy is to send out Cloyster, and if the coast is clear for it, start with Shell Smash to increase its Attack, Special Attack, and Speed by two stages. In the 🎉following turn, begin your barrage of Icicle Spear, which will become so powerful that it might just carve a dent even in Pokemon resistant to Ice.

The Pokemon series has added hundreds of moves and counting, but Freeze-Dry manages to stand out among them as one of the more unique attacks available. With a power of 70 and 100 percent accuracy, it's decent by the numbers, if unspectacular. Here's the twist: it's super effective against Water-type Pokemon, Historically, Ice-type moves are only 50 percent effective, so this can really throw some foes off-balance.
This move also has a 10 percent chance to freeze its target, which is always useful. Interestingly, it was also the only Ice-type move introduced in Generation 6. Kalos isn't much for coolness, it seems.

Aurora Veil |
Reduces damage from physical and special attacks for five turns. Can only be used du💮ring Hailstorms. |

Aurora Veil is one of the best defensive support moves in the game. When used, all incoming attacks will deal half damage. The move, however, can only be use🌠d in a Hailstorm. This can be triggered without the use of Hail if the Pokemon has the Snow Warning ability as it🧔 will start a Hailstorm when it enters to field.
Ice-types are usually more fragile, so having a move that severely hampers the opponent's attacks is greatly appreciated. Aurora Veil is the cornerstone of many defensive teams. Plus, it looks pretty, and that's always nice.

Once the signature move of Spheal and its evolutionary relatives, Ice Ball is now available to a variety of Pokemon. This Ice-type move, introduced in Generation 3, is a damaging move that has a specific usage. 𒊎If selected, it will continue for the n💦ext five turns. It will double in power each turn, beginning at 30.
In a sense, it is the Ice-type version of the dreaded Rollout, which was used by Gym🐽 Leadeꦕr Whitney to ruin the dreams of kids around the world. Against an opponent with no obvious Ice-breaking wall, this move can quick꧟ly do the same.
