The theory that Ash will leave the show at the end of Journeys isn’t a new one, but it's starting to look like an inescapable fact. Most players will remember Cynthia as the Pokemon League Champion in Diamond & Pearl. Cynthia and her Garchomp appear early in the game to give the player HM01 Cut. She appears several times throughout the game to give the trainer quest items and help them along in their journey before servin💯g as the final battle in the Pokemon League.
In the anime, Cynt𒉰hia served in a similar role by helping Ash defeat Team Galactic and Team Rocket. She first appeared in Pokemon the Series: Diamond and Pearl where she taught Ash a lot about the history of the world and the nature of Pokemon. As one of the strongest and most heroic trainers, Cynthia💯 has become one of the most beloved characters in the world of Pokemon.
Of course, it’s no surprise that Cynthia is returning as one of the World Coronation Serieཧs champions. In the upcoming episode airing in Japan this week, A൩sh and Goh meet Cynthia while investigating an eternal night that has fallen over the Johto region. This episode likely won’t feature a showdown between Ash and Cynthia, but it could be setting up a battle between them as we head towards the series finale.
There’s no guarantee that this will be Ash’s final season, but the appearance of fan-favorite characters like Cynthia certainly make Journey’s feel like Ash’s last ride. If this is the end for Ash Ketchum from Pallet Town, these cameos will have served as important reminders of all the adventures Ash has been on throughout the series. If we’re just making a mountain out of a⛄ molehill on the other hand, then at least it’s always nice to see a friendly face - especially one as adored as Cynthia.
