It’s no secret that when it comes to Pokemon, Kanto is t🎃he golden region. With Red, Blue, and Yellow releasing in the West between 1998 and 2000, plenty of fans have grown up alongside the series. Lifelong players hold a special affi💯nity for the first games – so much so that they’ve been remade a few times throughout the years.

We all remember our first Pokemon journey, and for a lot of us, that happened in Kanto. 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:We left Mom in Pallet Town and sprinted toward greatness🍷, grinding our♑ teams, taking on Team Rocket, and becoming the Champions.

But parts of that adventure were more fun than oth🎶ers, and certain areas from Kanto are bound to stand out in any longtime players’ minds. Between the Pokemon you can encounter, story progression moments, innovation, challenge, or just how much fun we had, we’ve chosen the best routes you’ll navigate during your time in Kanto.

10 Route 1: A Simple Icon 🐓 ♎

Pokemon Kanto Route 1 Let's Go

Okay, we know, objectively, that Route 1 of Kanto — or, really, of any Pokemon game — is bound to be a li🍷ttle bland. The point is to acquaint you with the game and get your toes wet with the adventure that lies ahead.

But that doesn't mean it doesn't hold the nostalgia of childhood for a lot of players. We darted off into the wilderness with our new Pokemon, kicked the crap out of every Pidgey and Rattata that dared come our way, and took that free Potion from the Poke Mart Employee with glee. It’s like they say: you never forget your first.

9 Route 4: A (Temporary) Point Of No Return ꦇ 🍸

Split in two by Mt. Moon, Route 4 runs mostly between its Eastern exit and Cerulean City. There’s the man in the Pokemon Center who’ll sell you a Lv. 5 Magikarp – which you can catch later, but buying it then gives you 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:that much more time with Gyarados when it evolves at Lv. 20.

Additionally, there are two move tutors in the Eastern section, by the enꦏtrance to Mt. Moon. One will teach Mega Kick, while the other teaches Mega Punch, both heavy-hitting Normal-type moves. Another thing about Route 4 is that, due to the ledges, you’re unable to return once you leave toward ꦿCerulean City, until you learn Fly or Surf later on.

8 Route 11: Ris🧸e And Grind

Pokemon Kanto Route 11 Overview Map

While not the most exciting of the routes in Kanto, Route 11 holds its own beca💎use of how much is going on there. You have Diglett’s Cave to the North, Route 12 to the East, and the port of Vermilion City with the infamous S.S. Anne to the West. But with so much grass, congrats: you’ve found an excellent place to g🐬rind a little before moving on.

There are two people of interest here, in the Station on the Western edge of the route. One is a trainer who'll trade your Nidorino/Nidorina for the same Pokemon of the opposite sex in Red and Blue, and will trade their Dugtrio for your Lickitung in Yellow. Additionally, if you’ve registered 30 Pokemon in your Dex, Oak’s Aide will give you the Itemfinder here.

7 Route 20: T🍬he Massive Waterway

Pokemon Kanto Route 20 Water Surfing

We really hope you like 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:"too much water"-style routes, because Route 20 is almost entirely seafaring. You’ll encounter a handful of trainers who – to nobody’s surprise – use Water-types, so a single Electric or Grass-type can easily carry your team. But not physically, of course – you'll need a Pokemon that knows Surf for that.

The real star of the sho༺w on Route 20 is the Seafoam Islands, located directly in the middle of the route. In Gen 2, Blaine will have moved his gym here due to a volcanic eruptionꦡ, but in Gen 1, the real draw of the Islands is locating, battling, and catching Articuno, the Ice-type Legendary Bird.

6 🐼 Route 12: Silent Enough To Snooze 🌳

Pokemon Kanto Route 12 Snorlax Let's Go

🎃When you leave Lavender Town and head southw🎃ard, you’re immediately met with an extensive route referred to as The Silence Bridge. Here, you’ll find winding paths, plenty of Grass and Water-Type Pokemon, and an ample number of trainers to beat for cash and EXP.

But there are a number of things to do on this route other than grinding. There are two TMs – Swift and Payday – to find, one of the Fishing Brothers gifts you a Super Rod if you tell him you’re into fishing, and we'll never forget waking up the inconveniently-slumbering Snorlax, a Pokemon so fond of napping that it&rs🌞quo;s kno🐲wn as “The Sleeping Pokemon.”

5 🏅 Route 13: An A-Maze-Ing Experience

Pokemon Kanto Route 13 Map Overview Maze

As soon as y🎃ou finish traversing The Silence Bridge, 🍸prepare for the gauntlet of trainers that is Route 13. The route is a winding maze, and sure, you can fish or run around in the grass, but the main attraction is all the trainer battles you’ll have here.

Gen 1 pits you against a cool ten of them on this route no matter what. Each trainer individually isn’t a huge threat – they&♔rsquo;re mostly Junior Trainers, Beauties, and Bird Keeper♏s – but with one after another, the damage adds up to make this route a real challenge.

4 ൩ Route 24: A Nugget In The Rough

Pokemon Kanto Route 24 Let's Go

There’s a lot happening on Route 24, with most of it taking place on Nugget Bridge. Here, you’ll have to go up against five tough trainers, one by one, in order to get across. If you best this challenge, you’re greeted on the other side by a Team Rocket Grunt, who references The Godfather as 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:he asks you to join Team Rocket. Naturally, you decline, and battle him for a hi꧅gh-value Nugget as a reward.

But on this route, you’re also in for yet another battle against your rival, and this one is nothiཧng to sneeze at. Additionally, there’s an item-heavy plateau at the Northern end of the Bridge, and the items you’ll find are different in every generation. In Gen 1, you’ll find the TM for Thunderwave.

3 Route 10: The Power-Up Path 🐭

Pokemon Kanto Route 10 Map Color

With Route 🐟9 to the south and Lavender Town up North, there’s already a lot going on with Route 10. You’ll need Surf to fully explore it, though, because the Power Plant, the route’s main attraction, isn&rs📖quo;t accessible without it. Fighting through the Power Plant is difficult, but there’s a Pokemon Center on this route, too – the only one in Kanto outside a city, other than the one on Route 3.

You'll encounter a good deal of Electric and Water-types on this route, depending on where you’re looking, but there’s one Electric-type you’ll definitely want to come back for. Zapdos, the Electric-type Legendary Bird, is waiting in one of the back corners of the Plant.

2 Route 17: Cruisin' Through Kanto

Pokemon Kanto Route 17 Lets Go Pikachu Eevee

Don’t think about the economy on bicycles, where they cost either a million Pokedollars or nothing, because you’re going to need one for Route 17, better known aౠs The Cycling Road.

Only bikes 🐬are permitted on the 🔯route. This rule gives way to a motorcycle gang, and you’ll have to take ten trainers that use Fighting, Electric, and Poison-type teams to advance. Once they’re disposed of, though, ride around looking for the wealth of hidden items.

Additionally, although you can technically access the wဣater, you’re not allowed to Surf. If you try, the game tells you, “Cycling is fun! Forget Surfing!”

1 🌠 Victory Road: We Are (Going To Be) The Champions

Pokemon Kanto Victory Road

If you’re tryi🦂ng to be the very best like no one ever was, grab you𝓡r League badges and march on over to Route 23 to begin your toughest challenge so far: Victory Road.

You’re unable to access it without beating each of the gym leaders, but if you want to get to the Indigo Plateau, you'll have to endure this challenge first. The trainers here are tough, especially if your team is under-prepared, but it’s a good way to learn you’re not ready for the endgame yet.

Additionally, the bottom floor of this winding cave is home to Moltres, the last of the Legendary Birds. Just make sure you’ve got healing items on yo💟u, because you’ll certainly have had your ass kicked a time or two before you fi🦩nd it.
