One of the big draws of the upcoming Nintendo Switch Online service is the ability to back up your save files to the cloud. This is one aspect in which Nintendo has been lagging behind the competition and is something that fansꦕ have been asking for since the announcement of the Nintendo Switch.

It seems that there will be limitations regarding what games will use the cloud save backup feature, as the descriptions of certain games have been updated on Nintendo's official website that now i💧ncludes a line stating that they won't be coꦕmpatible with the cloud saving feature.

A user on the Resetera forums a new line that was added to the description of the Splatoon 2: Starter Pack that says "This ga🥃me does not support Save Data Cloud backup."

Splatoon 2 isn't the only game that lacks support for cloud saving as Dark Souls Remastered, Dead Cells, FIFA 19, NBA 2K19, and Pokémon Let's Go Pikachu & Let's Go Eevee will also not be compatible with the feature.

The reason for most of these games not using the cloud saves feature seems to be to prevent players from abusing the system in order to save scum. The Let's Go games make a lot of sense in this regard, as the developers of the Pokémon games even prevented Nintendo 3DS owners from using save states in the Virtual Console versions of Pokémon Red & Blue & Yellow and Pokémon Gold & Silver & Crystal.

The Pokémon series already offers players a way to upload their Pokémon online, using the Pokémon Bank program. This isn't something that works in an emergency, however, so if your Nintendo Switch brea🌃ks before you have a chan🌠ce to upload your team, then they will be lost forever.

It's disappointing that Nintendo is allowing developers to opt-out of using the cloud save feature of the Nintendo Switch Online service, as it's one of the few things that players have asked for out of the service. The lack of cloud saves may be a blessing in disguise for future Pokémon games, as it will stop people from trying to abuse the system using multiple save files🧸 with the same game.
