Pokemon has made it a point to give a unique name to every single creature that has graced the games, manga, anime, and cards. As a result, with there being more than a thousand Pokemon to this point, there are just as many names for a Pokemon fa🦄n to remember.
Names can vary quite a bit when it comes to length, with some Pokemon having distinctly short names, some having distinctly long ones, and most others falling smack dab in the middle. With that said, we've compiled a list of every possible name length and identified how many Pokemon have a certain number of characters in their names.
"Character" here refers to any letter or number, as well as dashes (-), apostrophes ('), etc., but spaces do not count. For example: Porygon-Z has nine characters, Tapu Koko has eight characters, and Mr. Mime has seven characters.
10 ꦓ 🌳 Three Characters - Two Pokemon
Only two Pokemon are tied for the shortest Pokemon name, at a whopping three characters. Both are from Generation One, and one 🍬of them deserves such a distinction thanks to its legendary status.
That one is Mew, the Mythical that has been called 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:the ancestor of all Pokemon. The other is the decidedly less Mythical Muk, a Pokemon whose name literally came from removing one letter off a four-letter-w꧒ord, a trend quite p💃rominent in Generation One when Game Freak was significantly less creative in conjuring up Pokemon.
9 Four Char💜acte🌜rs - 11 Pokemon
While there are significantly more Pokemon with four letters at 11, that's still quite a far cry from the number of Pokemon with five or more. Once again, most of them are from Gen One, and there's only been one four-lettered 'mon from the past four generations.
The four from Gen One are Abra, Seel, Onix, and Jynx, and several more would follow for the next four generations: Natu, Xatu, Aron, Uxie (the shortest-named Legendary), Sawk, and Axew. There would only be one mo♑re Pokemon to have four letters, an🀅d it came pretty recently in Gen Eight: the cutely, appropriately-named Snom.
8 💮 Five Characte🗹rs - 50 Pokemon
Things turn up a bit with five-character Pokemon; there are 50 in the entire series. Most of them are smaller, relativel🦄y insignificant first evolutions, (Zubat, Lotad, Shinx, etc.), though there are quite a few standouts inಞ the bunch as well.
This group includes the shortest-named starters (Snivy, Tepig), pseudo-Legendary first form꧃s (Bagon, Gible, Deino, Goomy), and box-ar💛t Legendaries (Ho-Oh, Lugia).
Alongside those milestones are other Legendaries in Entei, Azelf, and Kubfu; the Mythical Hoopa, popular favorites like Eevee, Absol, and Riolu; and other Pokemon unique in their own right such as 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Ditto, Unown, and Rotom. Gen Nine introduced five Pokemon to the ♛mix in Lokix, Pawmi, Pawmo, Nacli, and K🌃lawf.
7 Six Characte🏅rs - 161 Pokemon

6 Seven Characters - 265 Pokem♉on
More Pokemon have seven characters in their names thꩵan any other name length, at 265 Pokemon. That brings about a few milestones, such as being the most prominent kind of Pokemon name length Gens One, Three, Four, and Six; and the second-most prominent in Gens Two, Five, and Eight.
Standouts from the lucky-number-seven group include a whole trio of Legendaries (Xerneas, Yveltal, and Zygarde from Gen Six), other Legendaries that are popular and powerful in their own right (Suicune, 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Groudon, Calyrex, etc.), 18 starters (Treecko, Torchic, Fuecoco, etc.), seven Mythicals (Jirachi, Darkrai, Zeraora, etc.), and some of the most popular Pokemon of all time (Pikachu, Snorlax, Lucario, Mimikyu, etc.). Other than that, other categories of Pokemon have much less to offer, with there only being one pseudo-Legendary (Baxcalibu🧔r), one Ultra Beast (Celesteela), eight starter-line Pokemon (Charmander, Feraligatr, In✅cineroar, Sprigatito, etc.), and no Legendaries or Mythicals.
There are a few more Pokemon of note, though, including the immensely popular Jigglypuff and 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:stronger regular Pokemon f🌳rom recent generations (To🐷xtricity, Grimmsnarl, Annihilape).
2 𒉰 Eleven Characters - 21 Pokemon ꧙

The earliest to reach the apex was the Alola 'mon, Crabominable. While it's had the distinction of being called one of the ugliest 'mons by most Pokemon pundits, it can at least say it had sole reign for the longest name for two generations. That was until Gen Nine, when two Pokemon were introduced to share the spotlight: Squawkabilly and Brambleghast.
