Now that the Pokémon series officially has over 800 monsters to collect, there is a chance that gen nine may cut some of these creatures. The current generation featuring Pokémon Sword & Shield cut the number of catchable Pokémon in half.

With the next gens characters designs likely beginning development soon, we have to wonder if the Pokedex will once again be cut, and if so, which Pokémon will be returning to the games. With fan-favorite like Pikachu and Eevee being almost guaranteed, we are going to take a look at which Pokémon are likely t🌊o never return to the series and which Pokémon we will likely see in the next set of games.
10 Least Likely: Silcoon
Silcoon has been one of the losers of the Pokémon popularity charts, in-fact in the Redd𝄹it poll, Silcoon didn't receive a single vote. This is likely because this gen three Pokémon has now been overshadowed by a variety of bug types ꦺthat as far more capable in battle.
Silcoon and his evolutionary line have already been left out of gen♛ 8. Given these dismal fan results and the fact that this monster has already been pushed to the side, we'd be surprised to see them return for the next set of games.
9 Most Likely: Gengar
One of the most popular ghost-type Pokémon is Gengar. Introduced in gen 1, Gengar has long been one of the ghostly mascots of the franchise💧. The Pokémon evolves from Haunter, who was a major part of Lavender Town's story in gen 1. The Pokémon Company has rolled out several merchandise lines surround this Pokémon and his evolutions, including several Halloween exclusive items.
To make Gengar's chances even higher, he was included in Pokémon Sword & Shield. In the ඣprevious generation, Gengar e🐠ven got his very own mega evolution.
8 Least Likely: Spoink
Spoink and his evolution Grumpig don't seem to be mentioned much in the Pokémon community. Spoink does have an interesting design and is a psychic type Pokémon. You still won't ♕find him o𝔉n competitive teams, though, and the amount of Spoink merchandise over the years has been incredibly limited.
Spoink was already excluded from gen 8, and will 𒉰likely not make it back into the next set of games. The Pokémon has neither served a major role in any of the games or been part of more than a few episodes of the anime.
7 Most Likely: Magikarp
Magikarp is a weak Pokémon that quickly evolves into the series favorite water type Gyrados. Magikarp has long been part of many merchandise lines and has even h♕ad his own dedicated premium Ichi💖ban Kuji drawing in Japan. Along with this, Magikarp even received his very own app game, titled Magikarp Jump, in 2017. The app game was well-received by the Pokémon community.
This water-type favorite returned in gen eight and still has merchandise rolling out in 2019. The Pokémon compan🐟y even released a floppꦅing Magikarp toy a few months ago that fans fell in love with.
6 Least Likely: Hoppip
Hoppip is a grass Pokémon featured in generation II. Not only is Hoppip week in battle, but it's two evolutions aren't very effective either. This is a Pokémon that tends to slip the minds of ♊the player unless they are looking to complete their dex. It's final evolution Jumpluff is a little more popular, but still doesn't compare to fan favorites like Charmander and Squirtle.

Hoppip is another Pokémon already excluded from the series and has had very little love from merchandise lines. While it's final form is a flying/grass type, we don't expect to see Jumpluff win a t🅠ournament anytime soon.
5 Most Likely: Rotom
Gen 7 began the take over of Rotom, the Pokémon that loves to live in technology. From the Rotom Dex to the 🔯Rotom Bike, this popular ghost/electric type is now a m𒁃ajor player in the Pokémon universe. You also can't forget that while in battle, Rotom can take on different forms to give the Pokémon six different typings. This gives Rotom an edge when taking on in-game gyms.
Along with being an important part of how the world functions Rotom is loved by fans. This Pokémon is likely to return next-gen and will probably even take over the Pokémon world atܫ some༒ point in the future.
4 Least Likely: Floatzel
Combat wise Floatzel falls right in 🗹the middle; it♕ isn't a bad water type, but it isn't a powerful one either. This Pokémon was first introduced in gen IV and evolves from Buizel. Buizel and Floatzel are incredibly common in their debut game and can be caught early on, but aren't usually seen on players final teams.
Flotzel and his pre-evolved form have seen little love from t𝓡he merchandise team and aren't present in the current set of games. Given their average stats and popularit𓃲y, we likely won't see them in gen 9.
3 Most Likely: Ditto
Not having Ditto in a Pokémon game would likely cause fans of breeding to riot. Ditto has long🍷 been used to help create Pokémon with strong moves sets and good natures. This Pokémon also makes breeding muﷺch simpler as the player isn't forced to hunt for a suitable partner. Ditto has no gender and can mate with pretty much any other Pokémon you can think of.
Along with being an egg machine and included in the games since gen I., Ditto has a ton of merchandise available from the official Pokéᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚ𒀱ᩚᩚᩚmon Center.
2 Least Likely: Corphish
Despite being on Ash's team in the anime, Corphish is a rather av💜erage water-type. Corpꦚhish isn't badly designed, but it doesn't seem to stand out, as the Pokémon has been one of the least loved monsters by fans. The Pokémon does get a bit more powerful, though, when it finally evolves into Crawdaunt.
It's a bit surprising to not see Corphish in Gen 8 as it was a part oಌf Ash's team. Even with battling with the anime's star trainer, it seems that Corphish just couldn't ﷽make the cut. This leads us to believe he will also be shelved in future generations.
1 ๊ Most Likely: Litwick
While fans initially didn't know how to react to the candle Pokémon Litwick, it soon became a game staple. Litwick is a powerful ghost-type Pokémon that man✅y players will carry on their team throughout the games. The Pokémon's final evolution Chandelure is a popular final team Pokémon that even players in Sword & Shield choose to use💝 for their final teams.
Along with being good in battle, Litwick has a ton of merchandise made and is especially popular around Halloween. The Pokémon Company even included Chandelure in Pokkén Tournament for the Switch.
