Changing up the standard battle formula into a four-on-one adds some much-needed teamwork aspects to a game series that has always preached the importance of working together.
That being said, many aspects of Max Raid battles only make sense in the context of game design, with their reasoning for existing in the worl𝄹d itself either being laughable or non-existent, making players question its inclusion in Sword & Shield altogether.
10 Wishing Pieces 🃏 🌳
While the Wishing Star that falls from the sky is later revealed to be a fragm🦂ent of Eternatus' body, there is never an origin given for the Wishing Pieces that allow players to open otherwise "empty" Raid Dens. This lack of detail aside, there is also no reason given for why players need Wishing Pieces to access certain Raid Dens in the first place, since it is clear that there was already a Pokémon inside the den, but they just weren't able to challenge it without throwing a piece of space rock at it.
9 Watts
For the first time in recent years, Pokémon introduced a secondary currency in the form of Watts, which are used most often in trading with various NPCs in the Wild Area, 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:The Isle or Armor, and 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:The Crown Tundra, as well as bankrolling Honey's attempts to spice up the Master Dojo. Where this currency came from or why the NPCs in these areas only trade in Watts is never explained, nor why♋ trainers can find🌌 Watts after interacting with a Raid Den but aren't given any additional Watts after defeating the Pokémon inside it.
8 🐼 Hidden Abiliti🌺es
Before Max Raid battles, finding a Pokémon with its hidden ability was quite a chore. In Black & White, it could only be obtained through the Dream Radar mini-game, in 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:X & Y and 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Sun & Moon, they could only be found in Horde batt✱les or S.O.S. encounters respectfully. In Sword & Shield, these Pokémon can only be found in rare den Max Raid battles.
From a gꦬame design perspective, this aspect of Max Raid battles makes perfect sense, but from an in-game perspective, there is no reason given as to why Pokémon with their hidden abilities are only obtainable in a Raid Den rather than in the overworld. With both shaking grass patches and Brilliant Pokémon, there were several opportunities to have 📖additional ways of finding a hidden ability that weren't taken advantage of and would have made more sense in the grand scheme of things.
7 The Cat💎ch Rate
One of the best parts of Max Raid battles is the significantly increased catch rate of Pokémon found within Raid Dens. Aside from promoted Raids that are changꦐed every few weeks, every Pokémon that can be found in a Raid Den has a 100% catch rate, meaning players can obtain Pok💃émon in rare balls much more easily. While this makes it harder to catch Pokémon like Metang and Metagross much easier to catch without wasting dozens of Pokéballs, it raises the question of why Max Raid Pokémon are so much easier to catch than other wild Pokémon when they are supposed to be more powerful.
6 Gigantamax Po🌱kémon
Unlike 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Mega Evolution, nearly every Pokémon in Sword & Shield is able to Dynamax, with the exception of Zacian, Zamazenta, and Eternatus. Several Pokémon are also able to transform into a Gigantamax form, a slight variation on their normal form that is somewhere between Dynamax and Mega Evolution, but its existence doesn't make the most sense. For one, there is no definitive reason given as to why certain Pokémon can have a Gigantamax form while others c♊an't, which was complicated even further with the introduction of Max Soup which can give and take away the Gigantamax form from any Pokémon capable of having one.
5 The Prizes𒊎
The prizes gained from Max Raid battles are one of the best reasons to continue to do them, as XP candies and berries are always handy to have several of at a time. Something that doesn't make much sense about these prizes, however, is the existence of man-made items as prizes, such as Nuggets, TRs, and various battle items such as 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Life Orbs or Toxic Orbs. Having naturally occurring items as prizes was fine since it is reasonable to assume that a Pokémon might need to use one themsel🍷ves, but unless that Pokémon is stealing man-made items regularly, or trainers are simply using Raid Dens as dumpsters, the appearance of these items doesn't make much sense.
4 🎃 The ꦍNumber of Moves
Ever since 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Red & Blue, a player's Pokémon has always been limited to knowing four moves at a time with no exceptions to this. This hard limit was broken when it comes to wild Dyanama🐓x Pokémon, however, as they are often seen using five or six moves in a battle, sometimes using moves that it won't actually know when it is eventually ca🙈ught.
Like🍨 many other aspects of Max Ra𝔉id battles, this seems to have only been introduced to make the battles harder when players have multiple level 100 Pokémon at their disposal, but there is no in-game explanation as to how or why these Pokémon can learn more than four moves.
3 🧔 The Turn Limit✨
Just like with a Pokémon known more than four moves or certain attacks not working against Dynamax Pokémon, the turn limit given to players to defeat the Pokémon also doesn't make sense from an in-game perspective. While it does prevent the player from using stall tactics effectively, it also prevents the use of several other strategies that mi💙ght have been useful or interesting against Dyanamax Pokémon. Not only that, but there is no reason given as to why the player's Pokémon can only stay in its Dynamax from for three turns while a Raid Den Pokémon can stay in tha🍃t form indefinitely.
2 The Magikarp Trainer 🗹
The NPC trainers that can accompany the player in Max Raid battles are notoriously bad, with only a select few being somewhat decent. One of the biggest questions left open in Sword & Shield is why a trainer would think it is a good idea to bring a Magikarp into a Max Raid battle. While this Magikarp is a little better than most, knowing Hydro Pump rather than only knowing Splash and Tackle, this trainer couldඣ have been infinitely more useful had they picked any other Water-type Pokémon in the game and is only present to annoy players who can't do online Max Raid battles.
1 The Solrock Trainer 🦹
It's hard to imagine that there could be a trainer worse than the Magikarp trainer, but the Solrock trainer manages just that. Knowing decent moves like P⭕sychic, Rock Throw, and Rock Polish, this trainer decides that they should only ever use Cosmic Power, a move that is basically useless in standard Max Raid battles and serves only to waste time and a trainer slot during a battle. Considering this is supposed to be a team-based battle, it would have ꦺbeen smarter to use Solrock as a way to support other Pokémon, such as the Eevee, Clefairy, and Togepi trainers, all of which are better than the Solrock trainer in every way.
