Back in 1996, the 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Pokémon franchise was introduced to Japan with its very first games, Pokémon Red & Green. At the time, no one knew just how popular the games would be, but it's thanks to the first generation of Po🍃kémon li๊ke Pikachu and Charizard that the franchise would thrive for decades to come.

Eight generations later, Pokémon is still the same game of catching monsters to battle with, but there's obviously been a major upgrade in game🥂 design since the beginning. Looking back on the first generation games, some of the Pokémon sprites were very peculiar compared to how they are now due to technological advances.

10 Rhyhorn

Rhyhorn is the iconic rhinoceros Pokémon of the franchise, with a sharp horn on its nose and a rock-solid body. It is certainly a chunky rhino but not as chunky as its sprite from the Red & Green versions.

Rhyhorn's original sprite is not the worst of the worst in terms of appearance, but what it lacks in is its resemblance to the actual Rhyhorn we see in the anime. While the sprite has a larger horn and more rounded head, the actual Rhyhorn👍 is much more defined and slim at the snout.

9 Charizard

A fan-favorite amongst all the starter Pokémon in the game, 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Charizard is loved for both its role a🌊s Ash's prideful Pokémon par♏tner and its design as a fire-breathing dragon. Of course, Charizard isn't a true Dragon-type in its non-Mega form, but its Gen I sprite says otherwise.

Coincidentally, Charizard's sprite resembles another orange dragon's sprite, Dragonite. The big difference, however, is that Dragonite's sprite looks a lot more detailed while Charizard's just looks like the simplified version of it with some added flames. That being said, the two orange ꩲdragons look similar by nature, so the overlap between their sprites can't be helped.

8 Oddish

Some 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Grass Pokémon have very elaborate designs like Venusaur, w🐻hile others have super simple designs like Oddish. As a tiny weed Pokémon, Oddish doesn't have much going on with its design other than an armless blue body and green leaves for hair. Therefore, it's sprite should have been relatively straightforward with a cute result.

Instead, its l🐼eafy hair looks unkempt, perhaps due to the little curls at the ends. The body is as good as it can be, but the curled leaf tips really don't do th🥀e real Oddish justice.

7 Exeggutor

Exeggutor is a walking coconut tree with muꦕltiple heads who can think independently from one another. The different thoughts between its many heads can cause conflict and confusion as well as funny faces.

These funny faces are very much present in Exeggutor's first sprite. Its bulgy eyes pop right out, while the huge heads take up the majority of its body. This is very different from the Exeggutor se💮en in later generations where its heads are much smaller compared to its body. On the other hand, the facial expressions are equally silly.

6 Gastly

Ba🔯ck in the first generation, Ghost-type Pokémon were extremely rare with only three species who came from the same evolutionary line, Gastly, Haunter, and Gengar. Because ghosts 🗹are often depicted as floating see-through figures, Gastly's design consists of a floating face and a thin shroud of purple air around it.

In an attempt to mimic the shroud, Gastly's sprite has a slight gradation with darker pixels on the inside and lighter ones distributed more sparsely on the outside. From that, however, Gastly appears sandy, losing its gho𒅌stly vibes in the process.

5 Ekans

Ekans is the purple snake with golden accents, most commonly recognized as the original partner Pokémon of Team Rocket's Jessie. But despite the simplicity of its snake design, Ekans' Gen I sprite fa♑ils to look as threatening as a snake should be.

The issue seems to be Ekans' big mouth. On the sprite, the mouth looks oversized, to the point where it could either be the head of a duck or Bellsprout. In addition, without the slit pupil commonܫly associated with snakes, Ekans' sprite could pass as a friendly n✱eighborhood worm.

4 Hypno

On its own, Hypno is a pretty creepy Pokémon. According to its Pokédex entry, it has hypnotized and kidnapped a child before, which not only is illegal buಌt also gives off serious creeper vibes.

Likewise, Hyno's sprite is a little off-putting. Hypno's nose was already oddly shaped, but the sprite appears to have added an extra flap to the mix. The apparent smirk on its face also doesn't help. Buꦍt even though it may be one of the worst sprites out there, it at least succeeded in maintaining Hypno's creeper image.

3 𓃲 Farfetch'd 🉐

Before we acquired Sirfetch'd in Generation VIII with Sword & Shield, Farfetch'd had no evolution and was a long duck with its trust leek. Like many Gen I Pokémon, Farfetch'd doesn't have a super complex꧋ design. Its most prominent features are its leek and long beak.

Unfortunately, its ꧅beak did not transfer over well to pixels. The beak not only 𒉰looks squished but also curves upward. The rest of the body also appears squished and unnatural for an awkward posture overall. Thankfully, the leek is there to bring balance back to the duck.

2 Golbat

As its name suggests, Golbat is a bat Pokémon with a wide wingspan, four sharp fangs, and a large jaw for chomping down. But despite th🍬e fangs, Golbat doesn't generally come across as vicious or scary as bats are often thought to be. Its sprite, on the other hand, does look a little demonic.

With larger fangs, beady eyes and that crouched position, Golbat's sprite looks like it's about to lunge out at someone and suck their life away. The only thing that could make it more demonic is its long tongue, which is hilariously featured in its updated Red & Blue sprite.

1 Mew

Mew is known for its mythical status and key role in the first Pokémon movie. And when one thinks of the Mew, they picture an adorable pink cat who flies around whilst mewing. They do not, however, imagine its obscure sprite from Red & Green.

The sprite has a lot going on, starting with the fact that its head is bigger than its scrawny body. It also appears to be doing the spl💦its while having a hunched back. And finally, its poor tail looks as though it's been snapped at one of the bones where it bends too sharply.
