Pokemon: What𒁏 Are The Ultra Beasts And Where Do They Come From?
Come on, what's the deal with the big red bug?
These past and future forms of Pokemon mysteriously appear in the final area of the game, but what exactly are they, and where did they come from? Let's take a look at everything we know about Paradox Pokemon as we attempt to answer these questions.
Below we will discuss spoilers for the main story of Scarlet ꦉand Violet, so proceed at your own risk.
What Did Scarlet & Violet Claim Paradox Pokemon Are?
In light of a revelation at the end of the Indigo Disk DLC, the explanation received within the base Scarlet & Violet games' story has proven at least somewhat false. Therefore, the following text - written prior to the launch of The Indigo Disk - should be understood as the beginning of the answer, rather than the complete package.
Paradox Pokemon appear to be the ancient or future forms of modern-day Pokemon that we are familiar with. In Scarlet, you will encounter Pokemon from the past, and in Violet you will find Pokemon from the future. These Pokemon slightly resemble modern Pokemon, like Jigglypuff or Delibird, but have differences and completely different type🍸s. Flutter Mane, for example, closely res♓embles the Pokemon we know as Misdreavus, but has the typing of Ghost and Fairy, along with a different ability and learnable moves.
In the academy's library, you can find Occulture books which allow you can read more about each Paradox Pokemon present in your game. These books claim that the Pokemon described from the past or future are from nearly a billion years into the past or future. In light of this, and prior to the Indigo Disk's twist, we could reasonably speculate that Scarlet's Paradox Pokemon are the extremely early forms of a Pokemon, before its eventual evolution into the ones we know now, and Violet's are the eventual evolution of what that Pokemon will look like in the future.
What Does The Indigo Disk DLC Reveal About Paradox Pokemon?
Indeed, all was not as it seemed. Here's the deal: at the end of The Indigo Disk's story, the player character visits the Crystal Pool in Kitakami. Through the power of the newly-introduced Pokemon known as Terapagos, likely in conjunction with the power of the Crystal Pool itself, either Professor Sada (Scarlet) or Turo (Violet) appears. Sada and Turo died prior to the events of Scarlet & Violet, and their machine within the mysterious Area Zero had been replaced by an AI version of꧟ ﷽themselves.
But somehow, Terapagos allows us the brief chance to speak with the real deal. The version-exclusive professor, who Terapagos has sent through not just time, but space, will explain that they're investigating Pokemon in parallel realities. Thus, a wrench is thrown into everything we thought we knew about Paradox Pokemon; now, it appears they are from alternate variations of Pokemon's world.
Whether they're also from those realities' past and future is unclear, but there's supporting evidence for it, not least of which the fact that everyone thinks of the professor's machine back at Area Zero as a time machine. Regardless, we can now say with reasonable, if not absolute, certainty that Paradox Pokemon are at least from a separate timeline, and perhaps also from those timelines' distant past and future.
