There are dozens of different Mega Evolutions to choose from, with different Pokemon singled out as worthy options from across generations. One notable group of Mega Evolved Pokemon are the starters. Unfortunately, not all starte🐟rs can Meg🤡a Evolve, but the ones that can pack quite a powerful punch on top of their fantastic designs.

There are a total of seven Mega starters currently available in the Pokemon main series games. Each Mega Evolution has its uses, though some definitely stand out as better than the rest. Regardless of which one you prefer, there are merits to each Mega Evolved starter, and perhaps the biggest complaint for these Pokemon is that there simply aren't enough of them.

Updated 11 February, 2023, by Andrew Scariati: The latest Pokemon generations have made their mark with a variety of new mechanics that sets each apart. From Mega Evolution, to Dynamaxing, to Terastallization, Game Freak aims to keep things fresh and engaging for us as new strategies come into play. Mega Evolutions were explored at length, though it eventually became clear that some Pokemon, like Mega Kangaskhan, were simply miles ahead of the competition. As we continue to push forward with a lack of new Mega Evolutions, it seems clear that the mechanic might have been a tad too powerful to exist in the competitive landscape. However, that won't stop us from enjoying some of the greatest designs to grace Pokemon: the starter Mega Evolutions.

7 ♕ Mega Sceptile

With every Pokemon you choose to train, you’💯re going to have to weigh the good and the bad when determining whether it’s worth investing in. Mega Sceptile has some things going for it that make it an enticing option for any trainer looking for a Grass-type in their party. While its typing is incredibly cool, it does come at the cost of a quadruple weakness to Ice-type attacks.

Mega Sceptile is basically a better glass canon than its base form. It has incredibly high Speed and Special Attack (both base 145), making it a fantastic late-game sweeper. Of course, its Special Defense and Defense are fairly middling, while its HP is below average. If it can't finish its opponent off, they'll likely take it down in retaliation. In terms of weaknesses, it’s probably a step down from regular Sceptile. It does gain immunity to Electric-type moves (through its ability) but gains a weakness to troublesome Fairy-types alongside its five other type weaknesses.

6 Mega Blastoise 🍰 ✱

Pokemon X/Y

Sadly, Blastoise gets the short end of the stick when compared to the other Mega starters. It’s by no means a bad choice of Pokemon, but doesn’t have the same kind of base stat distribution someꦜ of the other Mega Evolutions possess that make them so good. Still, don’t underestimate it; Mega Blastoise can deal a ton of damage to an opponent.

Its main weaknesses are its subpar Speed and HP base stats, which actually don’t change at all from its regular form. But on the plus side, its Attack, Defense, and Special stats get a pretty hefty boost. Mega Blastoise has a great Special Attack at 135, and a nice damage boost from its Mega Launche﷽r ability. It has a number of moves in its movepool that can benefit from this as well.

5 🌟Mega Charizard Y 𒈔

Pokemon X/Y

In regard to Mega Evolutions, Charizard undoubtedly received some special treatment, which comes as no surprise given its immense popularity and mascot status. It’s one of only two Pokemon with the aꦰbility to Mega Evolve into alternate Mega Evolutions. Much like Mewtwo, Charizard has an X and Y form.

Mega Charizard Y has a ton of Special Attack, and its Drought ability boosts the damage output of its Fire-type mo𝓰ves even further. A staple of sun teams, this Charizard Mega Evolution can punch huge holes in teams if given the oppor🅠tunity. Its biggest knock is the lack of an interesting type change to really distinguish it from its base form.

4 Mega Venusaur ✅ 🥂

Pokemon X/Y

Mega Venusaur won’t exactly wow you with its stats, but it does receive boosts where they count. None of its base stats were boosted by an incredible amount, but it’s still a solid Pokemon to have on your team that doesn’t h🔯ave many glaring flaws. Luckily, everything aside from its HP and Speed stats (which remained at a solid 80) was boosted to at least 100 or more.

On top of these base stat boosts, it actually loses its weakness to Fire- and Ice-type moves thanks to its Thick Fat ability. That’s huge for a Grass-type and will definitely give you the upper hand in some battles if used properly. It's the epitome of a tanky Grass-type, a key Pokemon that can excel in a variety of different teams.

3 ♕ Mega Swampert

Pokemon Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire

While there is quite a battle for the best Hoenn starter Mega Evolution, there's little doubt that Swampert is 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:the strongest Water-type starter introduced in the games so far. It’s a tough and versa💃tile Pokemon that doesn’t really have any glaring faults. Mega Swampert improves on all of that, and makes Swampert an even more solid option for your party. The only downside with Swampert is its quadruple weaknes🍎s to Grass-type moves.

If you can handle that one type weakness, you’ll be happy with the otherwise incredibly powerful Pokemon you get. Mega Swampert has amazing Attack, Defense, and Special Defense stats, with some great Special Attack and HP as well. With its Swift Swim ability, you can make it a frighteningly strong speedy sweeper on rain teams or even 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:use it to gre🎉at effect as a speedrun specialist.

2 Mega Charizard X ꦛ

Pokemon X/Y

Mega Charizard X lacks the ridiculously high Special Attack of its counterpart, but it's meant for a different role. With high Attack, the Tough Claws ability, additional Dragon typing, Dragon Dance, and very powerful STAB moves in Flare Blitz and Outrage, it's one of the most potent physical setup sweepers around.

Mega Charizard X's base Speed is a very average 100, but if you give it a little breathing room to start boosting, you're going to be in for a world of pain. Its competitive viability is perhaps a bit limited, but you can absolutely make it work if you build a proper team around it.

1 Me🧔ga Blaziken

Mega Blaziken jumping on rooftops.

Pokemon X/Y

Mega Blaziken is one of the most well-designed Mega Evolutions and takes the crown for the best Hoenn Mega starter. Aside from its Mega Evolution, Blaziken is also one of the 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:strongest starter Pokem✱on of all time, even in its base form. At first glance, it may seem like a typical glass cannon, but it’s far more than that. It offers you more value and versatility than Mega Sceptile and is comparable to Mega Swampert's greatness – though without the quadruple weakness.

Mega Blaziken really stands out with its combination of high Speed, Attack, and Special Attack. It has well-rounded HP and Defense stats as well, making it more durable than most other glass cannon types. Its Speed Boost ability can see it snowball out of the opponent's control with a simple use of Protect. If you enjoy predicting your opponent's moves and surprising them with a well-executed counterplay, then Mega Blaziken will be a delight to use.
