There are many mysteries from the first generation of168澳洲幸运5开奖网: Pokémon games that were created due to Game Freak developing the game with a Japanese audience in mind. One of these involved the sounds Staryu make and how they🔯 yell instead of saying their name.

In the original Pokémon video games, all of the Pokémon used digitized noises that were limited by the hardware of the Game Boy. When the Pokémon anime was developed, it became possible to use voice actors for Pokémon sounds, which started the trend of Pokémon only being able to say their name (with a few exceptions, such as Meowth from Team Rocket). There were also some Pokémဣon that never spoke, like the screaming Victreebel or the roaring Charizard.

Two of the most confusing examples of Pokémon making noises instead of saying their names are Staryu and Starmie. In both the Japanese and the English dub of the Pokémon anime, Staryu and Starmie make grunting noises, as if they are always doing karate chops. This, naturally, has confused a lot of Pokémon fans outside of Japan.

The meaning behind Staryu and Starmie's voices can be linked to Ultraman, which was a huge inspiration for Pokémon. Ultraman is considered to be the first tokusatsu hero and numerous franchises have referenced it since the '70s. There was a time in Ultraman when monsters would be kept in capsules and used when needed, which helped to inspire the first iteration of Pokémon, back when it was called

The connection between Pokémon and Ultraman can be seen with the Staryu line. In Japan, Staryu is called Hitodeman (meaning starfish man) and Starmie's name is the same, but it means "star jewel." Staryu's name is a direct reference to Ultraman, while the gem reference in Starmie's name is a reference to the Color Timer, which is the light on each Ultra hero's chest. The Color Timer blinks whenever the hero is running out of energy, as most can only maintain their super-powered form for so long. In Pokémon, when Staryu and Starmie are injuredဣ, the light in their gem also starts to blink.

The Ultraman connection was further cemented when the Pokémon anime entered production and ✱Staryu/Starmie became reoccurring characters on the show, as they were part of Misty's team. The sounds made by Staryu and Starmie are a reference to the noises made by🐽 the Ultra heroes and their villains in battle, as they often only grunt and shout while fighting. The English dub kept these noises without context, leaving many fans to wonder why the starfish Pokémon made karate noises in battle.
