Every big new Pokémon game gets fans talking. This year will see the release of Let's Go, Pikachu! and Let's Go, Eevee! for the Nintendo Switch. Though it's not the next big series installment (we'll see that next year), Let's Go is getting a considerable amount of hype. There are a few bits of new information. Perhaps most importantly, according to , you won't be able to evolve your starter Pokémon in either version.

According to Game Informer in a pair of Q&A sessions with the developers of the Let's Go games, players will be unable to evolve their Pikachu or Eevee starter. However, any wild Pikachu or Eevee the players manage to catch can be evolved. So, you can still get Raichu, but it won't be the evolved form of the Pikachu that accompanies you on the map. With regards to Eevee, as Game Informer mentions, only the original 150 Pokemon from the Kanto Region will be included. This means that a wild Eevee can only transform into Flareon, Jolteon, or Vaporeon. So, you won't𝔉 be seeing Eevee's other forms, such as Umbreon, Espeon, Leafeon, Glaceon, 🧔or Sylveon.

Many might be surprised at the fact that the main Pikachu and Eevee will be unable to transform. After all, in Pokémon Red, you might have begun with Charmander, and you probably left with Charizard. In Pokémon X, you may have picked Fennekin, and left with Delphox. Choosing a starter, and getting it to its most powerful form has been a tradition in the games. However, the Let's Go games are inspired by Pokémon Yellow. Director Junichi Masuda told that “Let’s Go, Pikachu! and Pokémon: Let’s Go, Eevee! are kind of inspired and based on Pokémon Yellow version,” There's a lot of significance to this statement. In Pokémon Yellow, the player is given Pikachu as the starter, and the electric mouse could not be evolved. Pikachu also followed the trainer on the map, similar to the Pokémon anime, So while many might be surprised, it actually makes sense that Pikachu and Eevee can't be evolved since Let's Go is more of a remake of Yellow.

The Game Informer Q&A has a few more interesting tidbits. A few of these are that candy earned in Pokémon Go will have no effect in Let's Go, you will have to use the Switch's gyro sensor and press a button to throw Pokéballs (no touch screen controls here) when using handheld mode, and that the Pokémon Company "has plans for the Poké Ball Plus beyond the Let's Go games." Clearly, a lot of thought has gone into the Let's Go games. They look to be great for newcomers, and a brilliant way to utilize Pokémon Go.
