Onix is the memorable behemoth from Brock's Rock-type gym in the first generation, and we're happy to say it made the cut for Pokémon Sword and Shield. If you'd like to get your own, here's how.

Where To Find Onix In Sword And Shield

You can find Onix in East L⛎ake Axewell, Motostoke Riverbank, and the Giant's Seat locations in the Wild Area, particularly during intense heat or sandstorm weather. It's also a possible overworld spawn just outside the Meetuꦜp Spot.

How To Evolve Onix Into Steelix

Onix is one of the pokémon🥃 that requires a held item and a trade in order to evolve, so your first order of business is arranging for a friend to trade with you once you get your hands on the Metal Coat item. You can pick up a Metal Coat from Stow-On-Side on one of the roofs - find the building with a Bronzong outside and walk past until you see a ladder. It will take you up to the rooftop with the Metal Coat. If you want more than one Steelix, Bronzor have a small chance of holding them when caught.

What Steelix Does In Battle

Steelix has a fantastic base defense stat of 200, coming at the expense of its speed. If you had a Trick Room setup with another of your pokémon, Steelix could go on a rampage. As it is, it's a great pokémon for stalling physical opponents out. It does well with Earthquake and Heavy Slam for same-typ💜e damage, and can survive for ꧅ages with Rest and Protect.
