Pokémon Sword and Shield add all kinds of fun, strong, and strange new Pokémon to the competitive scene. But sometimes the best is an old MVP. Enter Aegislash, a haunted sword Pokémon that dominated competitive play during the X and Y days. Now with the Pokédex and available moves cut down, few can stop the ghostly blade from rising again to terrorize 's compꦇetitive play. But before it can do that, it has to start as a itty bitty baby sword.
Honedge is the first stage of ghost sword line. The legends surrounding it are quite creepy, making it one of the more chilling ꦰGhost-type Pokémon. Depending on which version you read, Honedge is either the soul of a person trapped wit꧅hin its own murder weapon or a possessed sword that drains away the life force of its wielder.
From there it evolves into a pair of swords called Doublade. Finally it becomes Aegislash, a sword and shield combo (appropriate fo🃏r these games). Legends say it granted a man immense power to conquer a kingdom, but then drained his life away. If that kind of unchecked, dangerous powe🙈r sounds like your definition of a good time, then here's how to find Honedge.
Where To Find Honedge
Honedge loves the Wild Area in both Sword and Shield. The only place to catch it naturally is in the Wild Area's Hammerlocke Hills. It may show up in the tall grass during a snowstorm. But it's more likely to appear floating around in the overworld during foggy weather. Outside of that, Honedge is known to appear in Max Raid battles that occur in the Dusty Bowl, Giant's 🌺Seat, Stony Wilderness, and Watchtower Ruins areas.
Honedge is also one of the few Pokémon that can spawn wild in 𝄹its evolved forms. Doublade will often appear floating in the Wild Area alone as one of the challenging encounters. It will be level 56 and appear in the Giant's Cap area. It might also appear during snowstorms in the Lake of Outrage's grass. It too can appear in Max Raid battles in the Watchtower Ruins.
Aegislash mig𝓰ht surprise dedicated players with a wild appearance as well. It will only appear as a singular overworld encounter during foggy weather in Giant's Cap, however. It can also spawn as a Max Raid Battle 💜at the Watchtower Ruins.
How To Evolve Honedge To Doublade And Aegislash
If you don't want to wait for the right weather conditions and luck to 𒀰bring Aegislash to you dirꦛectly, you can just evolve Honedge the old fashioned way. To do that, first raise Honedge to level 35. This will trigger the evolution to Doublade. Then you can immediately evolve Doublade to Aegislash by using a Dusk Stone. You can find the item at the Lake of Outrage and once at Stow-on-Side, or get it from the Digging Duo and as a PokéJob reward.
Be warned: evolving a Pokémon with a stone means it can't learn 🎀any more moves by leveling up. When you evolve Doublade to Aegislash, make sure it's learned whatever♏ moves you want it to have. Or have TMs with moves ready for after it evolves.
What Aegislash Does In Battle
Aegislash has the unique ability to change between offensive and defensive modes. It begins holding its shield in front of it. Like this, it will have amazing Defense and Special Defense. But once it uses an attack move, it will reveal its blade and change stances. It loses its Defense and Special Defense and gains great Attack and Special Attack in this Blade Forme. The ability to control what stats Aegislash🐼 is proficient in gives its trainer great control in battle.
Substiꦑtute is a great move for Aegislash as it saves it from taking major damage in its Blade Forme. It also needs King's Shield to switch back into its shield-holding form, so keep that move. Its other two moves should be offensive ones of two different types. It can be a great special or physical attacker, so you can choose if you want it to have Ghost-type moves, Steel-type moves, or even the few Fighting-type moves it can learn to deal with the Dark-types that threaten it.
