Without the aid of 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:TMs and TRs, it is unlikely that several fan-favorite Pokémon would be viable in either a normal playthrough of 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Sword & Shield or in a competitive battle. Oftentimes they are the reason why a Pokémon is able to cover its main weaknesses, such as 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Charizard's Solar Beam coving its Rock and Water-type weakness while Raichu's Surf covers its Ground-type weakness.

Not all TM🐼s or TRs are used for coverage or support, however, as some are simply used to give a Pokémon a brute force means of hitting as hard as they can in battle. Although there are seve🃏ral moves in the game with a high damage potential, few reach the astronomical heights of Giga Impact.

What Is Giga Impact

Via: Bulbapedia

Introduced in generation four, Giga Impact is the physical attack alternative to Hyper Beam and functions in much the same way, having the same base damage, accuracy, and requiring one turn of cool down after use. Before Diamond & Pearl, Hyper Beam, a Normal-type attack, was always considered a physical attack due to its typing and was just as viable on the likes of Gyarados, with a base 125 attack stat, as it is now on 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Thundurus and Tornadus, who both have a base 125 special attack stat.

With this physical and special split between moves rather than types, this meant that Pokémon who used to use Hyper Beam effectively, like Tauros and Snorlax, could no longer use them as effectively due to their poor special attack stat. As a resul🍃t, most Pokémon that used to use Hyper Beam now use Giga Impact instead, as very few Pokémon have an equal attack and special attack stat.

Where To Find It

As Giga Impact is one of the more powerful moves in the series, with a base damage of 150, it should be no surprise that you can't obtain it until late in the game. While Hyper Beam and Giga Impact have, historically, been accessible a little earlier on, with it being available in Goldenrod City in 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:HeartGold & SoulSilver, Sword & Shield doesn't let you buy the expensive TM unt👍il after you have obtained 8 gym badges.

After making your way to Wyndon, the location of both the 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Pokémon League and the Battle Tower, you can buy the Giga Impact TM from the P🔯okémon Center directly in front of the Pokémon League, the last possible moment before finally facing off against Leon. Surprisingly, this Pokémon Center also has the TMs for many good coverage moves, such as the elemental Punch attacks, Solar Blade, and both Hyper Beam and Giga Impact. Most of these TMs are particularly expensive, however, as both Hyper Beam and Giga Impact will cost 50,000 each.

Normal-Types To Teach Giga Impact

The best Pokémon to teach Giga Impact to, as well as Hyper Beam, are Normal-type Pokemon with a high base physical attack. In Sword & Shield, this includes the likes of Snorlax, Obstagoon, Tauros, 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Bewear, and Diggersby. Diggersby can make a particularly good use of this attack, despite its reputation🅺 as one of the worst early game rodent Pokémon, due to its hidden ability, Huge Power, which doubles its attack stat while it is in battle alongside its decent defensive stats.

Snorlax🍒 is in a similar situation, having access to Belly Drum ♉and the Gluttony Ability to make Giga Impact even more powerful, though has a distinct lack of speed that only makes it truly viable in Trick Room teams. Obstagoon, alongside its Guts ability and the hold item Flame Orb, can deal even more damage with Giga Impact than it can with Facade, which has a base damage of 140 while the Pokémon has a status condition such as Burn.

When the Dyna🎃max mechanic is added into the mix, Giga Impact maintains its high damage output in Max Strike, though comes without the one-turn cooldown that makes it a high risk, high reward move while also reducing the opposing Pokémon's speed by one stage. This is probably the best way to use Giga Impact in most situations since the loss of a single turn can mean the d🌸ifference between victory and defeat in most battles. Without Slaking in Sword & Shield, whose typing, base attack stat, and ability, Truant, make it the best Normal-type choice to use Giga Impact in the series, using it as a powerful Max move is the next best thing.

Other Types To Teach Giga Impact

Aside from Normal-type Pokémon, there are several other Pokémon with very high base attack stats that can make good use of Giga Impact. 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Ultra Beasts like Kartana, Buzzwole, and Pheramosa can all hit very hard with Giga Impact while also potentially securing a Beast Boost stat increase in one hit, which somewhat makes up for having to wait another turn to make a move. Other Pokémon like Galarian Darmanitan, who has two abilities in Gorilla Tactics and Zen Mode that can both increase the damage of Giga Impact, and Sirfetch'd, whose Scrappy ability means it can hit 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Ghost-type Pokémon with both Normal🎃 and Fighting-type moves, are decent choices as well.

Like the Ultra Beasts, Pokémon with the Moxie ability, such as Gyarados and Salamence, can also make good use of Giga Impact to get quick and easy attack stat boots as well as being able to make good use of the Dynamax mechanic in most scenarios. If you can get your hands on one, an Alolan Golem with Galvanize, which changes all Normal-type moves 🌞into Electric-type moves, can turn what would be a reg💧ular coverage move into a powerful Electric-type attack that also gains the same type attack bonus.
