There’s a clear tier list of Pokemon battle gimmicks. Mega Evolution, while the worst thing to happen to Pokemon by starting this whole uninspired trend, is the original and the best. Z-Crystals are obviously the worst, at least from a competitive standpoint. I’m not sure whether 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Legends: Arceus’ Strong and Agile styles even count, b♏ut the game’s lack of emphasis on battling puts them solidly inဣ the middle.
So where exactly do Dynamax andꦓ Gigantamax fit into it all? I’m rolling them into the same gimmick because Gigantamax Pokemon don’t see much competitive usage in comparison to their Dynamax cousins – and they’re basically the same, right? Sure, Gigantamax Pokemon have new designs (which are pretty much universa🏅lly awful), and they get an exclusive move, but generally they don’t have a patch on Dynamaxing a Legendary.
When Dynamax was announced, players immediately decried it as a broken gimmick. In actuality, it’s far from it. While the 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:kaiju aesthetic is imposing and terrifying in equal measure, the fact a Pokemon can only Dynamax for three turns makes it open to counterplay. You can simply put a Dynamaxed ‘mon to sleep, or use some Ally Switch/Protect trickery to vastly reduce their damage. In most strategies, Dynamax is more useful for buffing your Pokemon’s stats or deꦇbuffing your opponents, than it is for outright damage.
Look at the past gimmicks to see how imbalanced they were. Z-Crystals were essentially a free knockout that could come from anywhere at any time, and Mega Evolutions lasted 𒁃for the entire battle. The latter also buffed the Pokemon’s stats, which Dynamaxing doesn’t, and gave them new, often broken, abilities. Do you remember when Mega Kangaskhan turned its every move in🔯to a two-hitter? Goodbye, Focus Sash. Megas were only balanced by the fact that you had to take a turn evolving before you could unleash your true power.
In comparison to both of the gimmicks that came before it, Dynamax is well-balanced, changes up battles in a new and innovative way, and it looks really cool. It also plays perfectly into Sword & Shield’s stadium-oriented battle sequences. Dynamax has its downsides, but I think it will be lookeไd back on a lot more fondly than we expect.
That brings me to Terrastalising. While we don’t know the details yet, competitively it looks strong. Probably too strong. If there’s no way of telling which Pokemon can Terrastalise into which 🍷types on the team selection screen, the amount of RNG involved in competitive battles will undoub𒊎tedly impact the scene. It doesn’t help that I don’t really like the designs either, and my jaded eyes just see a merchandising opportunity rather than a meaningful iteration on Pokemon evolution, but that’s a different argument for a less competition-focused article.
I can’t help but feel Terrastalising could mix the worst parts of Z-Crystals with the worst parts of Gigantamaxing. Maybe 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Scarlet & Violet will prove me wrong 🐈and the competitive scene will thrive and be m🤡ore balanced than ever before, but one thing’s for sure: we’ll miss Dynamax when it’s gone.
