Before the franchise lept onto the Switch, the swan generation on the 3DS gave us Sun & Moon and the Ultra enhanced versions. The games were very enjoyable, even if the hardware that they were on felt a bit dated. Looking back now, they were solid games that even did some things better than Sword & Shield. Let's take a look at what Sun & Moon (and Ultra) did better than Sword & Shield, and the reverse.
10 😼 Sword & Shiel𓆏d: Hand-Holding
Pokémon Sun & Moon were the hand-holdiest games in the series. Every five seconds you were interrupted with directions and tutorials, you were never really allowed to go off and explore on your own. While Sword & Shield still stop you every once in a while, it is much, much less hand-holdy. Overall, the game lets you go off on☂ your own much more, and even lets you skip the decades-oꦐld catching tutorial!
9 ౠ S🌱un & Moon: Story
While Sun & Moon stopped you for tutorials fairly often, other times it was for the story. While it might have been laid on a bit too heavy at times with the dialogue, overall, there is an interesting story there, which is more than what can be said for Sword & Shield's story, which, besides some 🦄good character development, i๊s non-existent save for a few very obvious "twists," if you can call them that.
8 🍒🔯 Sword & Shield: Visuals
Despite the trees, Pokémon Sword & Shield are solid looking games, much better than Sun & Moon, ꧟a game in which the characters still had square hands in 2017. While the games are certainly not on the level of other games on the Switch, they still look solid.
Sun & Moon look fine for the system that they're on, but Sword & Shield are pushing the franchise into a b🌠etter direction for graphics in the future.
7 Sun & Moon: Post-Game 🐭
In Game Freak's never-ending quest to not allow postgames to exist, Pokémon Sword & Shield give you a single episode and the Battle Tower. That is it. There's simply nothing to do in the game after you beat the main story. While Sun & Moon really isn't that much better when it comes down to it, you get to hunt Ultra Beasts, take down team Rainbow Rocket, and fly around in wormholes. It's better than what we got in Pokémon's first big home console game.
6 Swordღ & Shield: Gym Chall𓂃enge The League
Sword & Shield did some cool things when it comes to making the 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Pokémon League and gym challenge feel a lot more, real. It all makes sense, and it makes the game feel very grand in a sense, different from what we've gotten in the past. While Sun & Moon did away with gyms, what we got in Sword & Shield felt very original, breaking away from 🌟the formula.

While the Sun & Moon soundtrack is great, the re-up that we got in Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon that featured an awesome spacey vibe? Fantastic. While Sword & Shield has a very good soundtrack (Toby Fox made a song for it, come on), it just doesn't compare to the Sun & Moon era'ᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚ𒀱ᩚᩚᩚs absolute🌟ly bumpin' beats, though it is possible that the upcoming DLC could rectify this issue.
4 💟 Sw⛎ord & Shield: Replayability
As previously mentioned, the hand-holding in Pokémon Sword & Shield isn't as bad as Sun & Moon, and the story isn't as prevalent as well. This allows for Sword & Shield to be a lot more replayable, as you aren't being hit with a wall of dialogue every six seconds. It's certainly still not the best in the series when it comes to this area, but it is better than trying to replay Sun & Moon, which is just far too big of an undertaking.
3 ꦆ Sun & Moon: Z-Moves And 🅘Mega Evolution
Sword & Shield made the famous decision to cut Z-Moves and Mega Evolution from the games because why not infuriate your fanbase? You know which games didn't do this? Yeah, that's right, Sun & Moon.
These games added Z-Moves and kept Mega Evolutions around after debuting in generation six. While these features could come back someday, for now, Ultra Sun & Moon are the latest games to feature them.
2 Sword & Shield💛: Regional Variants
Sun & Moon introduced the concept of regional variants to the franchise, which was awesome. What wasn't awesome was the fact that the idea was clearly created for generation one pandering. However, Sword & Shield came back around and fixed this, giving creatures from e﷽very single region a brand new regional variant, along with some even getting new evolutions. This simply fleshed out an already good idea even further.
