Fusion Mew Key Cards
While the Mew VMAX deck has needed to change to keep with the times, and the version that won the Pokemon Worlds Championship 2023 has its own custom bells and whistles, there's no replacing the star of it all, Mew VMAX itself.
Mew VMAX
At a very respectable 310 HP, Mew VMAX can withstand all sorts of pot shots th💮at opponents may be forced to utilize in an effort to whittle it down.
Mew VMAX has Max Miracle, which costs two Psychic Energy and deals 130 damage without being affected by anything that would disable or diminish its power. More critical is its other attack, Cross Fusion Strike, which costs two Colorless Energy and lets you use an attack from any of your benched Fusion Strike Pokemon instead.
Of course, it revolves around using a Fusion Strike deck. But that's not such a bad thing when Fusion Strike decks rock. Here's how your other big creature card comes into the equation.
Genesect V
Get a Mew VMAX on the field. Keep Genesect V on the bench. Tap into Genesect V's Techno Blast attack. This d𒊎ishes out a very solid 210 damage, wit♓h a couple of disclaimers.
First, it costs two Steel Energy plus one Colorless. Hardly the most daunting deal, but it requires you to have a steady supply of Steel Energy, which you won't need for the Mew VMAX deck. The second problem is the important one. On its next turn, Genesect V cannot attack.
A two-Energy retreat cost will eat you up swiftly if Genesect V is your primary fielder, but Mew VMAX has zero retreat cost, meaning it can switch out every turn, keep its two Colorless Energy, a♏nd get replaced 🦂with (ideally) another Mew VMAX.
Try to get as many Genesect V out on the bench as you can, too, since its Fusion Strike System ability is an amazing wellspring of consistent drawing power if you've got a stacked bench of Fusion Pokemon.
Forest Seal Stone
Slap this tool on Mew V or Genesect V to help you draw precisely what you need - which is going to be Mew VMAX more often than not, but it can easily end up being Fusion or Double Colorless Energy instead, or even a Genesect V if you've got Mew Vs galore but no Genesect Vs.
Elesa's Sparkle
Elesa's Sparkle ensures the Fusion Mew VMAX deck can be supreme straight out the gate, especially if you go second at the start of the game (and have one of these in your hand, of course). The chance to pull two Fusion Strike Energy from your deck and attach them to one to two active/benched Fusion Strike Pokemon is great - you're hitting the ground running.
Meloetta
We mention Meloetta last because she can benefit so well from Elesa's Sparkle, though don't discount her usefulness in other scenarios. Her attack, Melodious Echo, deals 70 damage for every Fusion Strike Energy attached to your Pokemon. This card's a V-killer, to be blunt. As soon as you've got even just three Fusion Strike Energy out, it'll let Meloetta do heaps of damage (210, to be exact), enough to end lots of things.
But the 280 from all four Fusion Strike Energy? That's a guaranteed knockout, and a serious dent on Pokemon VMAX as well.
Fusion Mew Strategy
Look at that cutie. Surely, it can't terrorize the human race. Surely, he's worth a Mew VMAX deck list.
Don't disregard Mew VMAX's other move. It won't be the all-star, but it makes for stellar backup. Max Miracle hits your opponent's active Pokemon for 130 at the modest cost of two Psychic Energy. 130 from a VMAX doesn't sound earth-shaking on its own, and in truth, it sort of isn't.
But Max Miracle's got an ace up its sleeve. It breaks through any barrier, so your foe cannot rely on any form of special effects in the game to stop it. If their own deck is built around blocking, they'll probably be in trouble.
Since this is a Fusion Strike deck, you should avoid including any Pokemon outside the Fusion Strike system. Maybe it goes without saying; maybe it doesn't. But the synergy that these cards can achieve can't be overstated. You wouldn't toss a Squirtle into an all-Fire deck. Presumably.
Take Mew V, for example. You'll want four of these since they're the ladder to your three Mew VMAX. One of the nice things about the Mew VMAX deck is that your Mew Vs aren't just ladders, though.
Mew V can search your deck for any Energy and attach it to a Fusion Strike Pokemon, bulking up your forces early on or even near the end if you've struck a bizarre stalemate in the match.
Mew V's Psychic Leap deals 70 damage for that one Psychic Energy and leapfrogs the card back into your deck. "Why would I want to toss my Mew V back into the deck instead of evolving it into VMAX?" You wouldn't!
What you might do instead is push a Mew V onto your bench and have an active Mew VMAX use Psychic Leap once it's on its last leg, prohibiting your rival trainer from scoring three Prize Cards. If you have another VMAX lined up, do remain sporting, but feel free to let out a chuckle.
Fusion Mew Common Threats
The United Wings deck, as it's called, can be a real menace for Mew VMAX. The main reason is also the most apparent - the four Murkrow can really murder (pun absolutely intended) your Psychic-types. Given the deck derives its name from Murkrow's own United Wings attack, which deals a base 20 damage for every Pokemon with United Wings in your discard pile - oh, by the way, the four Wattrell and four Flamigo all have it as well - these birds are liable to look like Alfred Hitchcock's.
Arc Duraludon Umbreon (the 'Arc' is short for 'Arceus') is almost as rough, with the Umbreon Vs and Umbreon VMAXs tearing you apart quite swiftly if you aren't a.) careful; b.) lucky.
