168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Pokemon Unite’s newest season has been somewhat overshadowed by the launch of 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Pokemon Legends: Arceus, but with any justice it too can have a significant impact on Gen 9. With some bold predictions suggesting Gen 9 could be arriving at the end of the year, we know startlingly little about it. 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:India has been suggested as a setting due to a 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:complex fan theory, while I’ve previously written that Africa, a continent yet unexplored by Pokemon, 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:would also be an appropriate setting. After four generations away from Japan, we could be headed back there, but in that time, a new pattern has emerged. Gen 5 and Gen 7 were both set in the USA (or rather, fictional versions of the country), and that could mean Gen 9 r⛎eturns to continue the pattern. I⛄f that’s true, then this is where Unite comes into play.
The new season takes place in the Wild West, a setting that is so perfect for Pokemon it feels surprising on reflection that New York and Hawaii got a look in before Texas. Considering the swathe of movies and adventure stories set in the Wild West, video games are lagging behind. There’s Red Dead obviously, but then you’ve only really got Call of Juarez (whꦚich already modernised itself out of the genre) alongside it. I don’t think Pokemon would deliver something with the rich themes of Unforgiven or The Good, The Bad, And The Ugly, but it would have a helluva lot of fun with the genre. Westerns were often very playful movies, it’s just that the darkest and most tragic stories have gone down in history. A series like Pokemon can explore the fun of the era again, without needing to worry about gritty realism.
The settings speak for themselves. The Old West has an iconic look to it, and enough wide open spaces that Pokemon can continue to bring in more ideas like the Wil🌳d Area, or the free roaming locations of Legends: Arceus. We already have a few of the animals we associate with the Wild West in Pokemon (cattle, rattlesnakes, horses), but that's true of anywhere. If we go to Africa, we already have lions, zebras, hippos, and elephants, so there's nowhere you can really go for unique inspiration. It has such a timelessly irreplaceable look though that so many interesting designs could come from this setting - and that's before you get into how much character could be poured into the regional variants.
Legends: Arceus seems set to have a major impact on Pokemon going forward too. Pokemon could just as easily retreat into the safe formula it has used for 25 years, but Legends' success could mean more roaming in the future, a greater emphasis on catching Pokemon, a move away from the gym structure, and 😼the introduction of Agile and Strong styles across Gen 9. It could also see side quests become p💧art of Pokemon in a much bigger way. If that's the case, the Wild West helps there too.
To follow up Legends: Arceus effectively, the next game needs to offer wide, expansive spaces. It can't have a tightly packed urban setting like Unova or Kalos. Even Galar is probably a little unsuitable, though obviously the Wild Area helps offset th𒊎at a little bit too🅺. The Wild West, with an obvious hub town structure much like Hisui, helps keep the spirit of Legends: Arceus while providing a greater platform for the more typical formula to still come into it.
Clearly there is some appetite for it. We wouldn't have the new Unite season at all if there wasn't some understanding that Pokemon and the Wild West can go together. I've given up on guessing what Gen 9 might be, with so many teases and fan theories, so I have no idea if this is a hint at what's to come or just a coincidence, but I hope I'm riding through town on my trusty Mudsdale as the Pokemon Trainer With No Name some time soon.
