Although we shouldn't judge a book by its cover, in the world of Pokémon, it's usually a fairly good tactic for discerning who is worthy of a spot on your roster and who to leave roaming around in the tall ꦬgrass. But that hubris has been the downfall of many trainers who don't understand the raw destructive power 🏅of Azumarill. This polka-dotted aqua rabbit is one of the fiercest attackers in the OU tier.
With the Huge Power ability that doubles Azumarill's attack stat, plus its access to Belly Drum, Azumarill can gain a monstrous attack stat. On top of thaꦜt, it has a huge base HP that can tank a few hits allowing it to set up to sweep your opponent's team.
9 WEAKER -𓄧 ARIADOS
A Bug- and Poison- Type Pokémon sounds like a great combo. It was for Beedrill, except Beedrill's terr🦩ible stats made is near impossible ♚to use for the whole game. Unfortunately, the same fate befell Ariados, who was the spider Pokémon fans wanted, but ultimately couldn't use due to its bottom-feeding stats.
Spiders are ferocious predators, so it makes no sense that Ariados has an abysmal base speed stat of 40, with its 😼highest stat being its attack, which comes in at 90. Ariados is such an intimidating looking Pokémon but doesn't live up to its fearsome ap🌄pearance.
8 ⭕ STRONGER - CHANSEY
Chansey looks like a big pink egg, tℱhat holds an egg on its pouch. Not exactly the picture of power that a lot of trainers look for. Some of its stats reflect its meek appearance such as its base attack and defense stats of 5. However, its HP has a base stat of 250 and its special defense is 105. Those stats, plus the Eviolite item, make it one of the premier specialౠ walls in the entire game.
Due to its Normal-type, it can soak up most special attacks with no pꦦroblem. With access to Toxic, Stealth Rock, Hard Boiled and Seismic Toss, Chansey can tank special attackers while slowly whittling them away.
7 WEAKER - REGIGIGAS 🐼 ♒
Regigigas created and gave life to the legendary titans Registeel, Regirock, and Regice🍎. That alone should give you an idea of how strong it is. Its 🙈stats are incredibly high, sporting a base attack of 160 and speed of 100. However, the reason that Regigigas is weaker than it looks is because of its ability, Slow Start.
For the first five turns that it'sꦑ on the battlefield, Regigigas has its attack and speed stat halved. It still has good defenses, but since it can't deal any real damage, it's likely that your opponents can take it down before it gets its original stats back.
6 STRONGER - ALT🔴ARIA
With that unassuming smile and puffy cloud for a body, its no wonder that Altaria gets underrate♏d. It makes sense too when you compare Altaria to othe🐼r Dragon-Types from the same generation like Salamence. However, behind the cute appearance lives a defensive and offensive beast once Altaria mega evolves into the rare Dragon and Fairy-Type.
When it mega evolves ♑it gains access to the Pixilate ability, which turns all Normal-Type moves into Fairy-Type.🧔 If you can set up your Altaria with Dragon Dance, it can deal massive damage with Return and no one will ever underestimate Altaria again.
5 WEAKER - ONIX 💝
At face value, a 29-foot long rock snake sounds like a great addition for any team. But as it turns out, Onix is only really strong when Brock uses him to crush the level five Pokémon of aspiring trainers when they take a shot at their first gym. Especially in Pokémon Yellow wh🧸en you only have access to a Pi🎐kachu and Rattata.
Turns out that other than the ridiculous base defense stat of 160, Onix is a slouch. It has a dreadful attack stat, special defense and a sliver of HP that any Water o🙈r Grass-Type attack would destroy in one hit.
4 STRONGER - PORYGON-Z ﷺ
Perhaps due to its design that looks like it was pulled from the canvas of an abstract artist's canvas, Porygon-Z never seemed to get too much love. Maybe its because you have to train up a Porygon to get it, which can be a bit of a tedious task since you have to trade it to task. It doesn't have high enough stats to counteract its typing that only gives it resistances to three types. Even though ꦉit has decent health, it is let down by poor defenses, poorer attack stats, and even poorer speed. The only reason you would use a Tropius is if you like the design.
2 ꧂ 𓃲 STRONGER - TOGEKISS
The designers of Pok𝔉émon love hiding dangerous attackers behind cute smiles and round bodies. Case and in; Togekiss. Togekiss is the final evolution of Togepi and has a uniquꦑe Flying and Fairy-Typing. High special attack and strong defenses mean Togekiss can deal some serious damage while still being able to take a hit.
Also, with access to Serene Gꦐrace, which doubles the secondary chance of moves it uses, Togekiss can൩ have a much bigger impact than just damage. With this ability, Air Slash has a 60% chance to flinch its target.
1 ᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚ𒀱ᩚᩚᩚ WEAKER - NIDOKING
Nidoking is by no means weak. In fact, it has some of the best offensive coverage in the game with access to moves like Earth Power, Sludge ൲Wave, and Ice Beam. However, for such an intimidating and powerful looking design, you'd expect its highest stat to be higher than the 102 that Nidoking's attack is.
It is still a powerful Pokémon t🍬hat can deal damage to a wide variety of type combinations. But its meager defense of 77 and special defense of 75 are a lot less than one would expect from such a scary looking Pokémon.
