By contrast, Gible evolves into Gabite at level 24 and from Gabite to Garchomp at level 48, while Dratini spends 25 levels as Dragonair before evolving into Dragonite.
8 🥂 It Has Three Nice (If Niche) Abilities To Choose From
When it comes to Abilities, the Axew line is a bit of a mixed ba🌳g. While none of its options are particularly bad, they’re definitely not among the best the series has to offer.
By default, the line has access to either Rivalry (which increases damage dealt when attacking a Pokémon of the same gender and reduces it if they’re of the other gender) or Mold Breaker. The latter is very useful for hitting those pesky Levitating Rotoms with Earthquake, but is ineffective outside of that. Its Hidden Ability, Unnerve, prevents the opp𒈔onent from using the berries they’re holding, which is also very niche.

6 It’s Already Quiteไ A Powerhouse
As we know, Fraxure has another evolution to go through before it reaches its final form, Haxorus. Even so, it’s surprisingly strong already. Dragon-types are renowned for being heavy hitters,🌠 whether on the physical, special or mixed side, and this underrated line certainly lives up to that reputation.
Fraxure has a base Attack of 11💝7, which outdoes a lot of fully evolved Pokémon. It Speed is lacking (base 67), though, which is one trait that holds it back compared to its fellows.
5 🎐 Its Tusks Are Its Most Dangerous, Most Fragile Weapon 🔴
What makes this middle stage Pokémon such a strong physical attacker? Well, it’s probably something to do with those huge, vicious (if sligh🍬tly mustache-looking) tusks it has.
True enough, these things can inflict some incredible damage. Pokémon X’s Pokédex states that Fraxure can “shatter rocks” with them, though they’re not to be used carelessly. Pokémon Y adds, “after battle, this Pokémon carefully sharpens its tusks on river rocks. It needs to take care of its tusks—if one breaks, it will never grow back.”
4 Haxorus Is A True Undeꦺrrated Powerhouse 🔯
So, yes. Fraxure is quite the menace in its own right, and there’s little to gain from waiting to evolve it (as it doesn’t learn many useful moves at a lower level, unli🌃ke many other Pokémon). The question is, th🌺en, how much stronger does it get on evolving?
Well, how does base 147 Attack sound? This is super high, and when coupled with some of the useful moves this line has received lately (such as First Impression) as well as Mold Breaker, this is a Pokémon you don’t want to underestimate. What of those tusks now? According to Pokémon Y, “their sturdy tusks will stay sharp even if used to cut steel beams.”
3 It𝓡’s Disappointingly Frail, However 🌊
Haxorus may learn priority moves, powerful STAB and a great boosti🌼ng move in Dragon Dance, but it’ll often struggle to hit its full sweeping potenti𒅌al in battle. Sadly, it just can’t really take a hit.
Fraxure’s 66 base HP, 70 base Defense and 50 Spec𝓡ial Defense mean that any attack’s going to really do a number on it. On evolution, these stats become 76, 90 and 70 respectively, which is an improvement but still leaves it very vulnerable. As does its ღawkward base Speed of 97. As much damage as this thing can deal, you’ll have to work darn hard to make it happen.
2 🉐 It First Appeared In The Pokémon Aꦚnime In An Axew’s Dream Sequence
By the time of the episode “Dreams By The Yard Full!,” Axew had already made its presence known in the Pokémon 💮anime. Here’s the interesting thing about the feisty little Dragon-type, though: neither of its evolved forms had been seꩲen in the show yet.
This episode revolved aroꦍund Munna and Musharna, but it also marked the first appearance of Fraxure. It wasn’t really there, though! Instead, Axew was asleep and dreaming of evolving. With Jiggypuff’s well-documented marker pen attacks, these sort of sleeping moments aren’t unusual on the show, but it was a bit strange to see a Pokémon debut this way.

Despite Haxorus’ great physical power, it’s quite a rare sight on teams. We’ve covered some of the reasons why: its Speed and Defenses are lacking, meaning that it’s tough to find situations in which it can safely set up. Another of the line’s mediocre stats is itℱs Special Attack.
Haxorus’ base ✅Special Attack is 60, which isn’t remotely usable. Fraxure’s is 40 and Axew’s is a laughable 30, which is the lowest of any Dragon-type to date.
