Following rumors that Prince of Persia would see some kind of remake, Ubisoft broke the news today. 2003's classic Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time is getting a full remake - and it's coming soon. Very soon.
Rebuilt from the ground up, and featuring the return of Yuri Lowenthal as the titular prince, the Sands of Time Remake will be available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on January 21, 2021. No word on a Switch announcement, and considering the spotty track record of big-name Ubisoft titles on t💦he platform, it'd be surpri𝓀sing if one was even in the cards.
For peﷺople who aren't old ladies like myself, Sands of Time is an action-platformer that deals in time travel gimmicks and orientalist depictions of ancient Persia. Back in the day, it was pretty well-received, and spawned a whole trilogy of games before two soft reboots.
Oh, and there was that movie with Jake ꧟Gyllenhaal. As a Persian prince. Yikes.
No woꩵrd on if Sands of Time Remake will be getting a full physical release, or just a budget-priced digital one. Either way𝐆, despite elements that clearly haven't aged well, it's a real dynamite platformer, and it's great to see a whole new generation gets to discover it.
