Whenever you think of Mortal Kombat characters, you usually think of Scorpion, Sub-Zero, and Raiden. The franchise created by Midway Studios, now named Netherrealm Studios, is no short of ha🌟ving iconic female characters. There is Sonya Blade, Jade, and th🧸e one who is getting the spotlight: Kitana.

The princess of Edenia made her first appearance in Mortal Kombat II and became an instant fan favorite. Her design in her debut game resembles that of a ninja,ꦜ and yet she was very beautiful. Over the years, her appearance has changed significantly and still remained gorgeous. Her weapons look like they are simple fans, but their blades are dangerous and make them look cool.

Throughout the years, Kitana has become one of the most recognizable characters in the franchise. She might seem dangerous at a first glance, but once you get to know her, she is actually very kind and loyal. Even though she is not a protagonist, she had a lot of screen time in the recent games like Mortal Kombat 9 and Mortal Kombat X.

Kitana has appeared in other media like the movies, animated TV show, and live-action series. Each p🍸ortrayal of her captures Kitana’s character and make her likable and interesting. Cosplay and fan art of her is also common in the fandom, even if some of the recent costumes are very difficult to make. Is there something you do not know about the Edenian?

Here are some facts about Kitana, the beautiful yet dangerous princess of E🤪denia!

20 🥂 Living A Lie

via: vaxzone.deviantart.com

Kitana in the Mortal Kombat games tends to be on the evil side because o🧜f her father Shao Kahn, but in actuality, she is self-conflicting because all she wanted to do was impress her father. As we play through her arcade ladder and pay attention to her story, we eventually find out that Shao Kahn is not her biological father.

Because of that, her life was pretty much a lie.

That makes Kitana a very tragic character since she was young when Shao Kahn took her actual father’s life, made her mother Sindel his queen, and then she offed her life. Once Liu Kang came into her life, she changed for the better and fights with Earthrealm in order t꧙o save her home that is Edenia.

19 🔴 Part Of An Unusual Outfi♎tter Shop

via: mortalkombat.wikia.com

The Mortal Kombat series might be one of the most intense video games to ever grace the consoles, but it does have its fair share of humor. Obtaining unlockables that do not appear in the campaign can be received in the Krypt. There, concept arts, videos, characters, and more can be unlocked. In the game Deadly Alliance, there are “jo𓆏ke” items that can be seen in the Extras menu.

Kitana appears in a golfing advertisement.

Apparently, Edenians took up golfing from Earthrealm, and they opened up a successful golf outfitter shop. Kitana, along wit⛄h Goro became spokespersons for the store and it served th💛em very well. It certainly does not beat Cooking with Scorpion, but the picture is endearing and pretty funny to look at.

18 ও Don’t Mess With Her

via: nemu013.deviantart.com

Kitana might seem beautiful and ladylike at a first glance, but the number one rule of getting involved with the princess is being careful. Due to her years under Shao Kahn’s rule, she has trained to become the perfect warrior. Along with her friend Jade, the two were unstoppable in doing their jobs. It is sort of u💮nsettling to ꦍthink of Kitana as an assassin, due to her character development later on in the franchise, but if she is one Earthrealm’s side, then it would be a great asset.

In addition to her being an assassin, her variant in Mortal Kombat X features her as one, which focuses on dealing more damage and being more aggr💖essive. As mentioned earlier, do not mess with th😼is princess.

17 🎀 Created A Peace Treaty ✤

via: YouTube.com (Super)

The first timeline in the Mortal Kombat franchise has a lot of history explored upon when it comes to the characters and their backstories. However, since the second timeline is a complete reboot, everything that has happened in the first one will not be repeated. Mortal Kombat 4 took a diꦛfferent approach after Shao Kahn was defeated for good for the time ⭕being.

After the former Elder God Shinnok’s threat, Kitana ma▨naged to form a peace treaty with the Shokans and Centaurians. These two species were known to be enemies, and for Kitana to make them form an alliance was ꦰsomething completely unexpected but amazing. It takes a brave and strong woman like Kitana in order to do something like that, and how she handled it was incredible.

16 𝓰 Costume Change 🎉

via: YouTube.com (Артём Астахов)

Kitana is one of the most popular female characters in Mortal Kombat and her play style is very fun and unique. In the games she appeared in, she has been a regular in all of the main series games except for Mortal Kombat 3 (before Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 came out) and Mortal Kombat: Deception. In the former and latter, she still made cameos when i🍌t comes to character endings.

She appeared in Ermac’s Deception ending and reunited with Liu Kang.

However, that is not the only peculiar part in the ending. For some strange reason, she is w🐓earing Mileena’s clothes but with her usual color blue. Then again, Kitana is not a playable character in the game, so the developers had to throw in a palette swap of Mileena but with Kitana’s face. At least she 🌟still appeared in the game!

15 In Honor Of Her Dearest Friend 🌸 ✤

via: xxanemonaxx.deviantart.com, wishidraws.deviantart.com

Mortal Kombat X is a great successor to the absolutely perfect Mortal Kombat 9. Although, the sequel is perhaps one of the most depressing ones in the franchise due to the number of characters sacrificed in the battle to save Earthrealm. Even though Kitana canoni💦cally at the moment is a revenant, her normal self is still playable.

Jade is missing on the roster, unfortunately.

Her best friend did not appear in the game whatsoever even though she appeared as a revenant in Mortal Kombat 9. It is possible that Jade’s spirit was able to break free from her revenant self, but that is according to Kitana’s Mortal Kombat X ending, whiඣch is more than likely noncanon. However, if you play in Kitana’s Mournful variation, she has Jade’s staff and razorang. Even though it is not the same, it is kind of Kitana to fight with♔ her best friend’s weapons.

14 Edenia’s Version Of Charlie’s Angels 💟

via: YouTube.com (arcadegamesfreak)

Arcade endings in Mortal Kombat bring interesting closures in their respective games. Some of them are thrilling or even tragic. Kitana’s ending in Mortal Kombat 9 is what w🍨e will be talking about. After she defeated Shao Kahn, Kitana learned the reason why Mileena was created, and that would be to take her place in ru♉ling. However, Kitana spared her life and offered her a role in aristocracy.

Together, with Jade, they formed a fighting force.

In a way, they are like Charlie’s Angels, but in Outworld instead of Earthrealm. It is a known joke around the comm🔜unity with the way the three posed at the end of the cutscene, but it is still pretty cool seeing these three fight together. They just look really good together too.

13 ❀ Unplayable In One Game

via: jutsukinoofficial.deviantart.com

Technically, Kitana is unplayable in two games, but after Mortal Kombat 3, there was an update to the game titled Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 and every character you can imagine were pl෴ayable in it. Even if she was unplayable, she still appeared i𓄧n the video games for the sake of pleasing fans and for filling in the story. There is another game where she is unplayable.

In Mortal Kombat: Deception, she is not in the character roster, but still appears in it. Strangely enough, she appeared in the PSP port of the game, titled Mortal Kombat: Unchained. Sometimes we cannot help but feel sad whenever our favorite characters are unplayable, but if they still appear in the game, then it i🉐s better than them not being in the game after all.

12 𝓰 Original Name

via: kittrix.deviantart.com

The name Kitana sounds like something Japanese related. In a way, you would be correct. Kitana is actually a combination of the words kitsune, meaning “fox” and katana. It made a lot of people believe that she was Japanese, but that is not the case since she is Edenian. Her ꦡoriginal name would not have been different in that regard.

She was going to be named Kitsune.

However, during the development of Mortal Kombat II, her name was changed to Kitana. Looking back on it, her current name is better suited for her since she does not have any ♔traits that make her fox related. Her name also is similar to the Persian name Katana, which means honorable, and not to be confused with the Japanese sword.

11 Japanese Inspi𒆙ration

via: sunkeytail.deviantart.com

Like with the previous entry, Kitana’s name sounds familiar to the Japanese language. For the most part, the Edenian princess is inspired by Japanese culture in some ways! Other than her name, her attire in Mortal Kombat II does resemble that of a ninja. Later on, in Mortal Kombat X, her default costume was definitely heavily inspired by Japanese warriors❀.

She even has a DLC outfit that is titled Jingu Kitana. It is more than likely based on Empress Jingu, a Japanese Empress and onna bugeisha, which is a female warrior who commonly fought alongside samurai. It fits her very well since she fights alongside her comrades and is practically powerful in combat. By the time the new Mortal Kombat game comes out, hopefully, Kitana will still retain her Japan🎐ese themed co🍨stumes.
