The PlayStation 1 represented a massive paradigm shift in home console video gaming. It signaled the🐎 beginning of the end for the 16-Bit age and leapfrogged the industry forward into a 32-Bit space that even CD-based add-ons could not follow.

Polyg💦on graphics became the industry buzz word almost overnight🙈, allowing the PlayStation to crank out visuals that gamers had to see, to believe. Throughout the console's run, many fantastic, groundbreaking games saw release, and they deserve a special mention here. Let's also take a look at a few games that weren't terrible, but nevertheless failed to harness the PlayStation to the same degree.

10 Gr༺eat: Metal Gear Solid

Without a doubt, 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Metal Gear Solid is the single most important game ever released for the original PlayStation. It went (far) above and beyond what the co🌳nsole was designed to do, and shattered audience expectations with a mixture of dynamite gameplay, a compelling story, and cinema-worthy action sequences.

Metal Gear Solid would serve to redefine the stealth/action genre, pushing it forward into new territory that would evolve throughout future franchise installments, as well as other IPs like Splinter Cell, Thief, and Deus Ex.

9 Generic: Ninja: Shadow Of Darknessౠ

This 3D platformer wasn't the worst thing to grace the PlayStation, but it was a far cry from what was promised. Hot on the success of Tomb Raider, Core Design decided to🙈 try their hand at a new property, building🍃 an entirely new game engine from the ground up, in order to bring the world of Ninja to life.

The game started out as a 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Sega Saturn title, with a simultaneous port to the PlayStation. In the end, the Saturn version got the ax, and Ninja hit the PlayStation in💦 l🧸ate '98, after a lengthy delay.

8 Gre๊at: Resident Evil

Survival horror was a foreign term to gamers before 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Resident Evil turned it into a pop culture phenomenon. For the first time, players were thrust into a nightmare haunted house scenario, in pseudo 3🧜D to increase the scares!

What followed was one of the hottest video game properties ever developed, and it's still going strong to this day. Resident Evil's nail-biting tension, horror elements, and jump scares were unlike anything gamers had ever experienced. Never mind the terrible voice acting. Resident Evil was a pioneer, way ahead of its time.

7 Generic: WipEout ✃ ⛎

WipEout was by no means a bad game, but underneath the fluff of its futuristic sci-fi hovercraft racing aesthetic sat a rather generic game. The pumping soundtrack by Tim Wright (aka CoLD SToRAGE) was the perfect accompaniment to the g♏ame's rollercoaster racing style.

In the end, however, WipEout was little more than a racing game with pit jumps, energy shields, and basic weaponry designed to knock your opponents off the track. The series never truly hit stratosphere-level success, but it did sail along strongly until 2012's WipEout 2048.

6 🃏 Great: Castlevania: Symphony Of 🍌The Night

Ever the fan-favorite among action platform and RPG fans, Castlevania: Symphony Of The Night hit the PlayStation like the Tsar Bomba, and every gamer from here to Japan sat up to take notice. This amazing sequel to the TurboGrafx-CD hit Rondo Of Blood was perhaps the most complex and well-constructed Castlevania game - period.

While its 2D Metroidvania style might fool some into thinking it was the product of a bygone era, Symphony Of The Night was actually a highly influential title that has gone on to influence even today's games, including Ori And The Will Of The Wisps. Its clever use of weapons, power-ups, insane boss encounters, and amazing secrets was a recipe for success. 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:If any game deserves an HD remake, it's this one.

5 ꦆ Generic: Driver

2001's 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Grand Theft Auto 3 brought criminal racing into the public consciousness, but it wasn't the first to market. 1999's Driver put gamers inꦜ the shoes of an undercover cop sent🌼 in to take down a crime syndicate by posing as a getaway driver.

The game did score well with critics, but it was easily outdone by the aforementioned Grand Theft Auto 3, which had a much better story, cleaner presentation, and a mixture of several different gameplay elements that Driver wasn't able to bring to the table. Essentially, it was Destruction Derby meets Need For Speed. Not a bad combination, but nothing origi♒nal, either.

4 Great: Tomb Raider ཧ ♑

The original Tomb Raider signaled a major breakthrough in 🍷3D action-adventure gaming. It was one of the first to offer gamers huge, non-linear environments loaded with secrets and puzzles that would keep 📖them guessing for weeks on end.

Although horribly dated by today's standards, 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Tomb Raider set the bar high for practically every adventure game that would follow in its wake, from Uncharted to Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. Its influence cannot be overstated.

3 𒀰 Generic: Syphon Filter 3

The Syphon Filter series was intended to be the PlayStation's go-to action/espionage title, and the first two games certainly hit the mark, earning high praise from critics and gamers. Unfortunately, the third installment fell short of expectations, with critics citing a lack of tension and excitement present in the first tw♒o titles.

In the end, Syphon Filter 3 would fail to deliver anything truly new to the series and would be eclipsed by newcomers to the action scene, most notably Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell, which came out a few years later.

2 🃏 🌳 Great: Gran Turismo

Make no mistake - Gran Turismo reinvented racing games for the new age and set the bar extremely high fo♛r all contenders who would later vie for the trophy. It placed heavy emphasis on the realism of actual driving mechanics, offering a level of depth that previous racing titles had only touched on.

Considered by many gamers to be the defacto standard, Gran Turismo lit the PlayStation up like the fourth of July, and attracted tons of gamers to the platform; even those who weren't big on racing titles, to begin with. These days, it has plenty of competition from the likes of Xbox's Forza, but back in the day, it had zero rivals. None!

1 Generic: Alien Resurrection ꦛ

The road to Alien Resurrection's eventual release was long and painful. Not only did it end up dropping on the original PlayStation a full three years after the movie hit theaters, but it landed with alဣl the impact of a pre-deflated whoopee cushio🌞n.

Development was awful, with the game switching style formats several times, causing a portion of the development team to quit in sheer frustration. It lacked the intensity and adherence to source material that Alien Trilogy brought to the table four years prior. Critics weren't overly harsh, but that is of no consequence to a game that failed to make any sort of waves for Alien fans.
