While Microsoft had their first outing with the Xbox during the 6th gen and Sega had their final one with the Dreamcast, there were 🌳realistically two titans that people revisit when they decide they'd like to get into a now-retro console from that generati༒on. These two titans are the Nintendo GameCube, and the Sony Playstation 2.
Both of them obviously have some of the most nostalgic start menus for a ton of different people, bu🔯t unfortunately, that's a personal preference that won't be included as we weigh why the PS2 was the greatest of its generation, or if perhaps the GameCube might just be too much of a classic to be defeated.
10 ღ PS2: It Had One Of The Biggest Libraries Of All Time
The Playstation 2 is perhaps most noteworthy for the fact that it has one of the biggest officially licensed library of games in the history of consoles. At a whopping amount clocking in at over 3,800, there are more than just a few hidden gems among the already large amount of AAA titles that were released for the console. Perhaps this wꦿas due to the fact thꦑat PS2 games were being released by 3rd party publishers long after the release of the Playstation 3, but either way, the library is absolutely massive.
9 GameCube: It Had Some Of The🍸 Best E𒅌xclusives
While the GameCube doesn't have anywhere near as many games as the Playstation 2, it wouldn't necessarily be incorrect to say that a lot of the games released for the PS2 don't hold up to the superb library of the GameCube, which included the beginning of tons of new Nintendo exclusive franchises, and sequels to old franchises that were incredibly well-received. The games that came out and enjoyed plenty of success include such greats as Mario Kart: Double Dash! and 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Super Mario Sunshine.
8 🍒 PS2: The Controller Is Nearly Perfect 🌺
One of theꦛ things people remember best about the PS2 is just how great the controller feels in the player's hands. It isn't anywhere near as confusing as the o༺vercomplicated GameCube controller, nor is it almost uncomfortably large like the controller for Microsoft's Xbox.
The Dualshock 2 is frequently cited as perhaps one of the best controllers of all time, and that's probably part ཧof why Sony has only minimally updated the controllerꦐ in subsequent releases.
7 GameCub🐻e: It Kickstarted Plenty Of Great Franch🌞ises
The GameCube not only had one of the best libraries of sequels in recent memory, but it was also the home to tons of Nintendo franchises that have become very well-loved in subsequent years, such as Pikmin, Chibi-Robo, and 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Warioware. While these new franchises don't get updated quite as much as they should and they aren't as big as say Mario or Donkey Kong, that doesn't mean they don't have incredibly devoted fanbases. Luigi's Mansion has gotten two sequels ♎since the initial release!
6 🎐 PS2: It Had Plenty Of Creative Peripherals
While the Dualshock 2 is an incredibly well-received controller, Sony decided that they weren't done quite yet and released 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:a slew of peripherals which while they don't work for every game, are super helpful to have and a lot of fun. From gamepads for Dance Dance Revolution to the EyeToy, Sony was nothing if not innovative with the new ways to play they did their best to deviไse during this generation. Sony didn't really stick with these for fear of being gimmicky per𒈔haps, but they've always had one big extra peripheral release since then.
5 GameCube: It's ൲Theꦗ Perfect Home Gameboy Dock
Once the Gameboy came out, gon♛e were the dayꦉs of only playing the Gameboy Advance family of consoles while curled up in bed after bedtime or in the car on the way to school.
The link cable that one could buy for the GameCube would allow for the connection of the Gameboy Advance or the Gameboy Advance SP to the GameCube, which would project the display onto t♔he television. The Gameboy consoles could the🍒n be used as a controller for a bigger display, or even passing party games around the living room.
4 💜 PS2: It's Home To Some Amazing Exclusives 🅠
While we've already talked about the exclusives that the GameCube has, the PS2 boasts some seriously great games of its own, which only makes sense given the ludicrous size of its library. The Playstation 2 was home to su🉐ch incredible propri✤etary franchises such as 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Jak And Daxter, Sly Cooper, 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Metal Gear, 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:God Of War, you n🅺ame it! It also marked the biggest distinction in Nintend💮o's preference for family games, and Sony's focus on reaching all demographics.
3 GameCub🌌e: It Gave Hints Of Nintendo's Future Way Back 🥂
Most peopleಞ probably wouldn't assume that hints of Nintendo's future would be seen as far back as the GameCube, but people who outright claim it doesn't would be incorrect.
One of the things that makes it so clear is the fact that the Gameboy could be used as a controller through the GameCube, a move that would be skipped when the Wii came out, only for the Wii U to implement a touch-screened controller, and then the Switch came out, and it started to seem very much like Nintendo had been doing their best to arrive at the Switch, their most perfected form of the technology they began exploring with t💯he GameCube.
2 PS2: It Was A Better⛄ Media Center ܫ
Unfortunately for Nintendo, and the Xbox 360 a generation later, it's increasingly clear that until the current Gen, Sony has been leading the pack when it 𒀰comes to making all-around media centers out of their consoles. The PS3 was the only console to come out that was a Blu-Ray player, in the same way, the PS2 was the only console with a DVD player (barring the Xbox which required an add-on accessory). Nintendo instead opted for Mini-discs for some reason, which seems like a misstep.
1 GameCube: The Controller's Still ꦕThe Best Way To Play Brawlers
While it only makes sense that the GameCube controller is still the controller of choice for anyone wanting to play Super Smash Bros in whatever the most recent incarnation it is, it's a little odd that it's endured as long as it has. Melee is still the go-to Smash game for competit✤ive players, but even when playing other iterations, you'll never catch a player worth their salt without a GameCube controller. Perhaps it's just the familiarity it provides over a Switch Pro controller, but it's the standard at this point.
