I was lucky enough to land myself a PS5 just three months after launch. Experiencing one of those moments I'm sure many of you had during that time when you couldn't quite believe it was really there when checking your virtual basket, followed by the anxiety of checking out and waiting for its arrival on your doorstep, hoping a delivery driver didn’t 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:switch it out for a bag of cat food or slam it into the pavement out of resentment.

The excitement when hooking up any new console for the first time is always palpable. My first time using a PS5 was a little different, though. I was blown away by the design of the controller. Since 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Astro's Playroom is waiting there ready to go when you fire up the console for the first time, it was the first PS5 game I played. Right away, I realized why 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:PlayStation had been hyping its new 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:DualSense so much during the build to the console's launch.

I have my favorite controllers like everyone else, but this was a new feeling altogether. I could feel everything. Each raindrop falling after Astro activated his hat umbrella, the perfectly weighted resistance from the triggers when using that weird contraption to jump between platforms, the slap vibration when you another bot (don't pretend you haven't done it too). The DualSense added a level of immersion to video games I had never experienced before.

168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart launched a few months later and took DualSense to an entirely new level. Making a few waves at the time for its PS5 exclusivity, a few minutes playing it with the DualSense in your hands is all you need to understand why the newest Ratchet game isn't available on PS4. Fully taking advantage of the haptic feedback and adaptive triggers, I finished the game eager to see what developers might do with those features next. An honorable mention to Returnal before moving on, though. Released right before Rift Apart, while I still haven't played it myself, colleagues have assured me it's another early PS5 game that really made use of the DualSense's features.

Fast forward two years and I'm still waiting. Not only have no other games pushed on from the DualSense achievements of Astro's Playroom and Rift Apart, but nothing has even matched those efforts. Replaying both games with my son has confirmed for me that I'm not looking back at my early DualSense experiences with rose-tinted glasses either. Their utilization of the controller was better than anything else available in 2021, and it's still better than anything else today.

My assumption since first learning about the DualSense has been that as graphics near a photorealistic level, developers need to find other ways to make their games more immersive. You'd think with studios bumping up against the limits of graphical potential, and with the DualSense at their disposal, more developers would be taking full advantage of the PS5’s controller to allow players to really feel their games rather than just see and hear them.

It's not only a lack of studios taking advantage of the DualSense's features that have left me feeling let down by a controller I was once so excited by. Its battery life, which wasn’t all the great when brand new, is downright abysmal two years later. I'm lucky to get an hour of gameplay out of one, even when playing something that doesn't use its features. Just sitting there while I’m watching Netflix, the warning that the battery is running low pops up sharpish. Again, that's when the controller is doing absolutely nothing while I simply watch It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia for th🌊e nin🔯th time.

We're probably not even halfway through the PS5's run right now, so my hope is as more studios get to grips with what the DualSense can do, and realize how much it can add to their games, the more future titles will make full use of it. Since 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Insomniac was the last studio that really blew me away with its DualSense acumen, I'm tentatively excited about the work it has done with it for 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Marvel's Spider-Man 2. That said, considering the battery power needed to make full use of the controller, I may need to buy a new one before Spidey swings back onto my PS5. Maybe they’re going to fool me into buying one of those fanc𓆉y limited-edition Spider-Man ones after all.
